On the island, there is nothing bad. Buildings are old but renovated and kept up, so shop by price. Days Inn, Oceanside. Hampton Inn very nice but
more $$ I think. They are breaking ground on two new properties new the convention center but they will be for 2014. Same with Holiday Inn taking
over the old Clarion property to the north. This kind of development will be welcome
Mainland at I-95 exit 29 there are several inexpensive but decent offerings. Over the years many of my guests have used MicroTel Suites with good
reviews but Philip seems to have had a bad experience there. Others have used Econolodge and Super 8 with no complaints. "Clean and decent" are
comments I hear a lot. All fifteen minutes from the beach.

The new Toll Plaza, located about halfway out the Jekyll Island Causeway, is now operational. The machines take credit cards as well as cash, and
their is usually an attendant for assistance.
Fee is $6 a day or $28 for a weekly pass.
If you feel you might visit Jekyll a few times a year, the annual pass for $45 is a good deal. It gets you a bar-coded sticker for your back right
window that is laser read in the far right lane, and the gate opens with no waiting.

On the matter of food, last fall, Nick and I did a buggy weekend at Jekyll Island and ate at Tuptim Thai on the northeast side of Brunswick on US 25.
The food there is great.
At the time they said they were going to open a new restaurant on Jekyll. It was supposed to be open by JIBE. Unfortunately I don't see mention of
the new restaurant on their web site or Google maps. Even if you have to drive into Brunswick, they are worth the drive.

Tuptim Thai is a great restaurant with generous servings, great prices and great service. They have another location in JAX and I think that is how
they get their authentic ingredients (ya won't find that stuff in Brunswick).
If they were talking about opening a place on Jekyll Island ( I had not heard that but this is good news) then they were caught up in the construction
delays for the two new hotels on the Island. That had been something of a chicken-egg conundrum, since the development of the retail village near the
convention site in front of the new round-about was predicated on the new hotels to be built there. Financing for the hotels had fallen through last
year but that has now been resolved and ground is being broken for them to open in 2014. That will generate the foot traffic needed to make new shops
and restaurants economically viable. Convention center bookings have already exceeded expectations and budgets, so the hotels and related
construction looks promising.
Many visitors commented last year that the new convention center looked good but the back end of it, facing the round-about when you first get on to
the island, looked like the ugly back end of a shopping mall. All that space will be filled in with shops, restaurants and hotels, complete with
landscaping and aesthetic details consistent with the rest of the development that people have liked.
This is not over-development. By law, any new construction must happen only on the site of old construction and the ratio of 35% development and 65%
natural environment and nature preserve will be maintained.
You will find Tuptim Thai on Route 341, just north of I-95 exit 36, on the north end of the Winn Dixie shopping Center. Highly recommended. Thanks
Philip.

Tuptim Thia is a favorite of ours as well, we always eat there at least once a visit. Very good and worth the drive off the island
