White Lake in NV Ready for Fun?
Has anyone made it up to White Lake just outside of Reno yet this year? Has the mud dried up? How about the cows?
Since most of the beaches in our area seem to be off limits to buggies these days, I am curious if the lake is ready for fun.
Take care everyone - Greg

You know I am not sure about conditions there right now. Flexiblade would have the scoop on that. We were talking about white lake at Nabx. Saying
that it would be our nabx close to home. I am sure it will end up being the next place to go and then taken away.

Where abouts is White Lake as in maybe the closest town or from the Oregon border?
EDIT: OK...so...wow- just saw the outside Reno part of the first post. Been a bad couple of days at work and the ole' gray matter has pretty much
phoned it in today. What is White lake like?

Just got off the phone with some kind folks at the 7-11 near white lake - she said that it is dry and that there has been vehicles out on the lake -
as I was talking to her she said she could see some vehicles out on the lake. If a truck and car can go out than we can go out - WHITE LAKE IS OPEN!
Now it's just a matter of watching for the wind - I use Reno as a standard since the area around white lake is close to Reno (15miles NW of Reno) and
I have found from experience that the conditions for Reno are closely mirrored at white lake. The only thing I'm concerned about is if the lake is
too dry - can cause it to be considerably dusty - a mask and goggles are suggsted for a trip up, just in case. Let me know if anyones interested. I
may also be looking into another expedition out to honey lake later on.
White Lake is very similar to Ivanpah except the mineral deposits are a bit different - I think there is a larger deposit of talc which gives the area
its name. the surface looks and runs about the same as Ivanpah except for if there are cow tracks, which can make for a bumpy ride. the lake is
about 1 mile X 1 mile, so you can get some speed runs in or just cruise. Honey lake is roughly 10 miloes by 7 miles - that would be one long run.

I am thinking a road trip to Honey Lake is in order in the next couple of weeks. Does not seem to be but 30-45 min further up the road. Sucks, I am
on the 50 side of the valley and it adds another hour plus to the trek up the hill. I was looking for some pics of the lake but stuck out. Seems to
be a good place for motorcycles but I couldn't find any references to kites or buggies. This place does sound pretty cool and big. I am still
figuring out the buggy thing and need the room (and watching people who know what they are doing would help too).
Good tip on the googles for the dust. I wear contacts and that would just drive me nuts.

I need to do a little more research on Honey Lake - I had heard there may be sink holes on the lake (cars aren't allowed). It is BLM land but the
Maidu and the Miwok I beleive use this area as spiritual sacred land certain times of the year - I am going to try and get a hold of some members of
the Maidu to hopefully get an inside ticket to the show. So this is still in development - but a possibility - if anyone knows anything about this
area and the politics surrounding them any info would be great.

I might be up for a trip out to one of those lakes depending on when you go. Next few weekends might be busy for me though.
Hey Adrian - good to meet you over at the sod farm yesterday. That kite surf kite is pretty awesome :-)

Good to meet you Kevin. Thanks for the launch help. It was good getting some more time on the FS. After you guys left I ran on the dirt with the
buggy since half of the field was pulled up. It was more fun than running on the grass. I wonder how long they keep it dirt before replanting.
The field to the west were just planted so it will be quite a while before they are ready.

Hey guys,
New member here, long time kiter. I live near White Lake, I have buggied there, it is perfect. There are a few local guys here that are there almost
every weekend. We are fortunate in this area,a s there are several dry lakes within a few hours' drive, some very large. The access point is directly
across the road from the service station there on I think Cold Springs road. No dust from vehicles allowed on the playa, so vehicle damage is slight.
We are expecting lots of rain tomorrow, so the lake may be muddy for this next weekend.

Welcome to the forum - I was out at white lake last month, picked a bad day - winds averaging 18 gusting quickly to 35mph - too scetchy for my blood -
ran into a landsailor that said that the 10mph forecast days are the best. I think it may be near the end of the season for white lake though with
the rains coming - I've been hearing that it may be a very wet year and white lake may end up submerged even in the summer months - guess we'll have
to wait and see. Hope to hear more from ya.
