Wish I hadn't Done That

Thanks to everyone who left advice on my last topic. What Gear fo new starter.

Looking forward to my first trip out.

But at this point would anyone like to share their war stories about mishaps that happened to them which as a novice in charge of a 3.5m kite I should look out for on my maiden flights.

These kites have serious power! To ensure a trouble free 1st flight I suggest the following:

1. Make sure the kite killers are securely attached to BOTH wrists.
2. Don't fly in strong wind. A gentle breeze would be perfect when you get used to the power.
3. Get used to letting go of the handles and letting the kite fall to the ground. This skill will save you many times when flying in high winds.
4. Make sure you have a friend to help you launch and land. Trying to land and de-rig one of these kites alone is not easy.
5. Get a ground stake so you can safely tether the kite on the ground.
6. Make sure you have lots of space and there are no kids/people in you flying zone.

Have fun and safe flying!

Cheers Red Baron. Thanks for the advice. :D

What about every one else? Too cool to admit you made mistakes early on.

It's OK to share. I won't tell anyone, honest.

Anyway keep posting it's all good stuff and knowledge is power!

im pretty sure everyone out there has done there best superman immatation the first time they launched. another piece of advise i can give is dont launch straight down wind. if the wind is directly at your back, take a few big steps to your left or right (doesnt matter), and launch the kite off to the edge of the wind window. this is especially helpful if your not sure if your overpowered or not. the kite will have significantly less power on the edge than it does in the middle of the window. another thing you can do is start by sitting on your ass with your feet directly in front of you. this way if its a little strong chances are you wont get pulled over face first.
hope this helps a little
whatever you do, do not fear your kite, simply respect it.
they are capable of tremendous power.
