scud and jump mecca
I finally went to the east coast kiting mecca. Jockeys ridge NC,and I'm still digging sand out of places sand shouldn't be The wind was kickin at 20 with gusts to25+ and it was brutal. My legs have been sand
blasted,my arms nearly torn off(or at least a few inches longer).I you find yourself in OBX ,ya gotta go climb those 100 ft. dunes.I love that place,
it's scudding paradise.I had a few lofts that were10-15ft high and 50 ft long, on one jump off the dune, I think I went further than Orville and
Wilbur Wright went.but I still landed like them.... w/ a thud When I left I
couldnt hardly hold a soda. Next time I'm gonna get pics of me kite buggyin on the dunes.

I'll be down there November 1 - 6 as well. I'm really looking forward to hitting the dunes and seeing what some of my kites can do in a more steady
wind. Should be a lot of fun!

LoL! If it makes the journey it probably won't see the light of day unless I need lines or handles off of it. Looking the the winds from Jockeys Ridge
for today, I probably wouldn't land by the time I reached Michigan!!! :o

I remember playing on those dunes as a kid. I would run across the top fast as I could and then jump off the lip. Seems like I'd fall 10-12 feet
before landing, maybe more. The sand gives you a soft landing though. It's scary to imagine a kite jump from there. You could drift a long way
while falling off the dune. A side shore wind would carry you along the ridge as you fell though. Might have to try that if I can get over there.

Jockey's Ridge got me hooked on sport kite flying years ago and it looks like it finally got my wife hooked on it this year. I absolutely love the
Outer Banks and if it weren't for the hurricanes and missing the mountains I wouldn't mind living down there year around.
