gotta save up, buy gear, plan ahead, and whatnot. on my plans is a toy hauler trailer, more solar, cellular repeater, and practice.

NABX 2009 - MARCH 31st to APRIL 5th (?)

I would guess based on what has happened the last few years the dates will be MARCH 31st thru APRIL 5th. Kinda depends on the NALSA folks and the week they pick for their event, NABX has always been the week after.

I wouldn't mind a little distance between the land sailors and the buggiers...I got jybed into a ton...two way different sports,

and

I'm sure the land sailors never stop looking at our kite lines....

I noticed they moved down wind on wednesday....it's cool to hang out with them and ride with them, but I wonder what they think about the buggy techniques vs. the landsailor techs?

I mean there is plenty of room

just a thought...

but isn't there another landsailor event before the buggy event?

Funny ,I was thinking the same thing Eli. Personaly I buggy also and if ya noticed ,I was able to landsail on two wheels and stear around everyones handles and lines. I seen some near misses and landsailers run over lines. They just need to be told once and they'll listen. There was NALSA's event first, then blokart's spilling into NABX.At one point there were alot of blokarts there for the first time and didn't know how camp works or how to read a kite buggy's intentions. I got little buggy seat time with my Phantom 15 but i'm sure you seen my blue flamed sail blokart and PL buggy attached to the back, and not once were there any close calls with a buggy.they moved down were it was smooth for racing..... my trip went to fast and was there from 27th to 6th .I didn't hang like I usually do but still had a blast. Eli, What was you best speed and how many miles ya put in ? Thursday my first day there ,didn't even check in at BB yet and went for a run, 60.7mph and 63 mile the first day.The weekend was sweet with the winds but not for my Phantom cause I seen kites drop, then launch guys so kinda punchy.Great for landsailing though !My little girl had so much fun driving the convertable that she's planed next years trip already .we had NALSA,Blokart and NABX greet us with a warm wellcome so she planing all three events for 09.Thanks for sharing the fun guys and sorry Fran made two trips to the hospital, nothing seriouse thank God !that one shot of Dave upsidedown that high was "SICK" !

HeAR you there...I just didn't know what the carts intensions were. but wow, what a turn out they had.. awesome!!!!! I got along some, just heard lots of jabber about too many blokarts...But I had a blast...you probably saw a 4m yakuza flying around (US 08) on the side!. I got about 10hrs of riding in (teus/wed), measured speeds around 50-60 on tues. Weds. was nuclear. so fun. I didn't use a gps, ellis and I just tested and tested away at his custom buggy! THANKS KITE BUGGY SPEED SHOP AND WINDZUP/Ozone!!!! between those two, I was perfectly dialed! And I was fully padded. REspect my Yakuza! RICO... thanks for the Apex demo...GOT ABOUT 60 OUT OF HER, on two wheels...

Put it this way. nobody wanted a tandem. I'm not at all resentful at not having a gps. I was trying to get some aoxomoxoa in. I had a blast, only 2-days there though. Hung around corey's camp...met some locals... Terry... I Saw you in a white convertable right? Anyways, I was in on teus. and out on weds. about 29 hrs at nabx....

I think I'm going to hook up with corey and kent and see about a return trip here in the near future. I will be going there next fall as well. Just as soon as i can. I'll have 3 gps and a tuned rig from Ellis....along with my Hero 3 cam....It's a goal. After this year, I'm convinced we'll get 80+....

TERRY, IOU A TANDEM....

Winds of change demos looked nice but I didn't get to sit in Jon's buggy.Soooo.....? Just realized , In group shot my daughter was sitting in the buggy.I seen everyone Eli but let everyone zone out ,even Aj ,he was gonna tweek my Phantom 15 for me .It made me more happy to see each guest get there licks in . We floated threw camp and even hit the shotraces or the tree. I finally got my wife out for a good run and my daughter and we have moments I'll cherishand never forget. I will say the squirt gun at the plume ride never got old. Dave Thanks for the laugh ! You'll get 80 Eli ,just be there when "She's On" !

Man, I'm still cleaning the playa off my S$#% ! A big shout out to Rosa who let me do a load of wash in the apartments or there would be even more dust.don't ask me how it gets in that little pocket in my boxers.I wasn't draggin my ass on the player ! I wipe the bags down then kick them and it comes from nowere, dust everywere .The car rental was worth the Laugh.Remember white convertable ? was tan when we returned with the ac blowin dust everywhere, At no cost too.......every year we wait to hear them say something but they don't .next year we'll throw mud pies and dirt bombs at it and see. <**>

Hey Eli and all you kite people, if anyone is interested in coming to the playa before the next event our local kite group seems to be getting bigger and im sure they all would love to come out when there is a group out. most of us have permits so there wont be an issiue there, I will take care of the food and drinks, and dont forget I still fix buggie. I figure it will give the people that didnt make it to nabx to come out and play this year, and you speed freaks can try to brake the record without too meny people in the way. (just a thought to bring the family together) what do you guys think?

an idea of 2009 dates would be good. some of our overseas buggying friends couldnt make over this year due to the short notice on my part. they require a bit more time to get originized than us. Right now we have a few Dutch (Ruudje and friends) and German Riders who would like to join us next year since they missed us this year. It would be nice to have some of our Euro Friends party with us on the dust field.

if a NABX originizer could send me some information I can translate it for them.

I could use some information how I could get a Container from Europe to Primm. They plan on shipping over all their buggies in one.

After transporting the buggy and kites for like nine years in a row I got a 5x5x10 locker in Vegas at Extra Space Storage this time and left equipment there. Strangely prices vary depending on location within the city, per month it broke down to about $24. I also bought a nice cooler, chair and a other items that I left behind. I spent 8 days this year on the playa so having a few extras helped make it even more enjoyable.

see http://www.extraspace.com/
On their Web site they note they do have package delivery and pickup solutions. I plan to ship a box of clothes and kites out early to the location I have next trip. That way the wife and I can travel with just small carry on bags, what a dream that will be.

The rental locker is a wicked idea. Every year we buy coolers and a few other things (tires) and leave them behind. A few people together on some of these might work. The biggest thing is the buggies - unfortunately we can't leave those, and probably cost more than extra luggage fees to ship them across the border before coming down. Hate to show up without a buggy delivered but the option of having it delivered to a rental unit sounds promising.

flying just got expensive for this year going anywhere. some airlines have this one luggage allowance, and any thing after is anywhere from $15 to $50 per luggage. Last year I got away lucky with only paying $100 in buggage fees on my return.

I say drive if you're close (saving on a rental car) and if you're flying mail your stuff to the hotel, it might be cheaper than paying the airline baggage both ways.

http://www.nabx.net (has a lot of useful FAQ)

as for taking a buggy on a plane, either a padded Golf bag or Hockey bag. If you can fit all your kites, wheels and buggy into a Golf Bag. 99% it will not count as your luggage allowance. No matter what they ask you is inside, there just GOLF CLUBS! =)

Costco has a heavy duty hockey bag (pull handle, and roller wheels) that can fit one full PL Buggy, 90cm Rear axle, and about 4 kites. The cost in Canada was $50 or so. The buggage dimensions fall within the regalutions of US Airways, Air Canada, Delta, Alaska Air and Westjet.

Samsonite makes a Golf Bag that can fit a complete either a Libre Full Race / Hardcore or XXtreme ApeXX 150cm Rear Axle, and about 3 Kites.

my wooden nickel cents
