high winds and big kite

so the wind was up earlier today and i thought what a great day to bring out my peter lynn arc 1120. so i unfolded it and was untangeling the strings when the kite just took off. and i happened to be hooked in. the kite suddenly started dragging me across the field, about 200 ft later i realized it was not stopping due to the tangled lines and then i just had to bail. my first experience with this kite was not a good one. its hard to fly without a partner. but man does this thing pull. so does any one have any tips for flying this beast im new to the pl and its a little different.

lay your line out first, check for tangle, then lay that kite out on the edge of the window wingtip first, launch it straight to the closest edge of the window and keep it low, as it inflates and pressurizes it'll be easy to tell if you've rigged correctly, and if you need to bail, just take right back to where you launched from.

the problem was i could not steer. im unsure cause no matter what side of the window i put it in it just seems to flutter an blow all over the place. today was just a huge disaster. whats a good wind range for this kite. i really dont know to much about it. and another question is a have a cabrihna chicken loop but its not traditional, it has no middle thing to keep it in place on the spreader bar, it just has a saftey release on the loop. i have no idea what its all about, thanks.

You can probably use nylon sail repair tape (the tape intended for fixing spinnakers).

right, thats why, you 'should' detach your lines and lay them out before the kite is layed out, then attach the lines to the kite, but secure the kites wingtip so it won't launch when you aren't ready. Once you think everything is hooked up properly, then go for a launch, be patient, my experience with them is that they inflate slowly, while it's inflating, keep the kite close to the edge, give the lines a good looking over as it inflates, that way you know the lines will allow you to control the kite.

the tear, if it's small you can grab some tedlar tapes; 3104-0 Se Powell Boulevard, Portland, Oregon, 97202 800 363-2870. Ask for sail repait tape. I don't have any in stock at the moment or I'd send you some...

I had almost the same issue with my Bomba, not like a fixed bridle, ANY line tension=launch. I still haven't flown it and it has been about a month. I'm a bit afraid of it and I won't fly without someone up there untl I get good.

Yes 16th Bday actually, no GF rite now.....:( and I took lessons from Anton Rainold and he talked some sense into me. And can't drink....16!? and I get $1000 if I don't drink till I'm 21, and alcohol tastes like poopie.

Oh and Dylan? Why is the symphony 1.8 "for fun" but the smaller 1.7 is not....? :puzzled:

The 1.8 Symphony is noticeably smaller than a 1.7 sq. m kite. Also the symphony is a 2 line kite whereas the sting is a 4 line.

PL's just have a completely different learning curve. Once in the air you can do whatever you want, including just tying it off and forgetting about it. I'm finally up to a decent success ratio on launches... simply terrific kites once you get them into the sky.

But for the easiest launches... FULL inflation really helps (I cheat and use a cordless leaf blower).

What do you do with your foils?

Charger 8, 12, 19
Scorpion 10, 16
And other foils...

I quit drinking a long time ago and don't miss it a bit . It's an awfull way to get high anyway. Getting the pants scared off of you is a WAY better rush ! I'ld take them up on that !

Trouble now for you is you will be wanting a car to get to kite spots ! $ $
