I have had REALLY good experiences with 6-ply tires.

Any reason you would not go for 6-ply trailer tires?

Also, is this the first time at IBX?

Lastly, I see you have a Vapor. Look me up when you arrive (you can't miss me) and let's talk vapors and the Pansh equivalent that I have.

Oh, any Libre buggies.

Better yet, camp with me and we will talk nonstop!

Happy to meet with you jeepersjoey, this is not my first time at IBX, I attended about 5 times between 2006 and 2015 (back when it was NABX) I would love some 6 ply tires I know how much the playa likes to eat tires. Where can I find 6 ply for my Libre?

I have bought a few different ones. Carlisle and Power King are two I gravitate to.

I have a local shop install them on my 4.8x8" on Sysmic aluminum rims.

I have never had a puncture in the 7 yrs and hundreds of miles at Ivanpah.

I do replace them EVERY year I go back to IBX. My riding style is brutal on tires and my front tire is usually at more of a drag than rolling angle (aimed upwind and throwing dust everywhere. A normal person will last many years with a set of 6-ply.

I bought the Power King last time from Walmart and had them delivered to my house. $33 each and free shipping. Although they do stick a big UPS label on the sidewall of each tire which is a MAJOR pain to remove!

BTW...(although this pic seems to deny this...) Carlyle Sport Trail did not fit very well between the forks on my Libre but they do work on the backs. Notice how tight it looks in the front. Even the Power King's needed an extra washer on either side to allow them to fit in the fork.

So I have a Power King on front and two Carlisle on back of the Libre and three Power Kings on the Ivanpah Buggy and on the Peter Lynn.

Here is the Power King: https://www.walmart.com/ip/Power-King-4-8-8-Boat-Trailer-Tir...

Are you mounting on plastic rims or are you lucky enough to have aluminum rims?

I think you will be happy with any of these.

Paul

Slick tires on the playa was always the conventional wisdom, have you had any difficulty sliding with the heavy tread?

That was kinda what I was eluding to. I spend half my time sliding sideways. My front tire is always at 20 degree upwind sliding. And wearing out 2x quicker than the backs.

It works for me though!

It is this counter steer, extreme studly over powered kite selection, and ultra low (dare we say, scraping) seating position that earned iPaul the venerable playa name: VAPOR TRAILS

I run essentially the same tire as Jeepersjoey on the playa. I ride in a, shall we say, more gentlemanly fashion, and I've gotten a little more life from my tires than he has earning his VAPOR TRAILS moniker. These are the ones I bought:

Sorry to hijack the thread. Paul it sounds like you need some weight shifted to the front so your slippage is more balanced. Paul what happens if you are powered up and hit a small bump that bounces you or if a gust hits you hard? Answers might be different.

Hijack away Bob! I've wondered the same thing about Vapor Trail's rig. My very first buggy was a Folding PL and it was possible to move the seat quite a bit fore and aft by adjusting the webbing, etc. I distinctly found a sweet spot. I recall getting my weight too far forward and my tail used to fish out (on grass).

Look, something new to discuss! :karate:

Didn't some of the guys build weights that bolted on to their forks to lock in the front end?

I've seen weights attached in various spots on larger, magnificent racing buggies. UtahTami has them if I recall correctly as well as the Israelites and some of the Oregonians.

Being as iPaul is a strict carnivore, maybe he could strap a large Salami to the underside of the down tube. While it would doubtless affect the weight balance, if he hungered throughout the day he could nibble on it (starting at the back of course to keep maximum weight forward).

Problem solved; my work here is done. Way to trigger my solution oriented thinking Colin!

You know...

My downtube is perpendular to the ground which would make an excellent location for a lamb gyro (def. turn or revolution).

I could roll-up on the site of a recent OBE when everyone is standing around wonder what the heck happened.

...who'd like a shish kabob?
...Gyro with Tzatiki anyone?
...Come and get it. Flatbread in the front, Baklava in the rear!

Oh yea...I'd be the hit of the party!

I swear that I would not lick the lamb as I ride. Swear!

And...as I eat I will weigh more which means my buggy will be more "planted",
