Are you saying it was mostly bare ice (or patchwork of bare ice w/drifts)??

Were you on skis or skates?

Picture on Facebook w/ Martin K. looks like Sunapee was all snow covered(but maybe ice was milky looking?) Never seen him use a kite, always using kitewing!

I'd go to Sunapee..where I usually go anyway. Was hoping to use skates over skis. So much lighter on the feet(by about 18-20 pounds!). Use whatever I have to though.

BTW..found cam at Winnipesaukee and looks snow covered there: https://www.winnipesaukee.com/index.php?pageid=weirscam

Snow and freezing rain coming. more surface changes.

not any bare ice.
some refrozen slush.
with powder and some drifts.
skis will be a must.
when are you going?
maybe we meet up.

Thanks Ted.

I don't Facebook(never joined and won't). Chris used to post conditions on his website(last post Dec '18) but stopped...?

Anyway went up today on Winni. Not powder but good windpacked snow. Nice to get out on skis.

Couple other kiters there using LEI's.

Wind got strong, had too much kite, brought out smaller, wind dropped, then brought out first kite again and voila! Then it mostly died off. Time to go home.

Where did you launch from? Meredith, Laconia?? We've been attending accepted student days at colleges for the past two weekends and another 1 or 2 to get through so my weekends have been shot. I miss the days when I kite skied in my backyard.

Anything South of the notches is boiler plate. Anything that was tracked up the day before the warm up, be it kite or machine tracks, ice fishing footprints etc. is not a fossilized snag fest.

North of the notches is better. The farther north, the better off.

Thanks.

Not travelling too far N. Think I'll wait for a 'Zamboni' ice resurface rain/warmth melt/refreeze.

One time Sunapee was impossible with deep refrozen machine tracks, so heading home, by chance stopped and got tip at Nordic Skater shop and day was saved going to Otter Pond near north end- hardly tracked.

Like the man said, we got all the boilerplate you've longed for. Warmth and sun may erode the
surface to something that can be ridden, but it's rough sledding just now.

kite skiing

I wonder how thick at Sunapee or Winni'? Hope it lasts a while.

Yoy want to be checking Hardwater on facebook. Nice shots of fissures on Winni. Yesterday we had rain.
We rode Long Lake 3/11 when we left the surface was corn of the mushy sort. My guess is that Long may be done.
