Chicken loop release

The 1 inch metal finger on the Peak 1 chicken loop release hangs up. It probably has been that way always. A friend flies this kite and I think I told her it was user error. But now (4 years later) that I've flown that kite I see what she's talking about.
Does anyone have a worn out kite but still have the release unit to part out. Or does the swivel and bar come out, with those available?
I will try to post a picture.

If it's the 1.0 bar, you can get a replacement CL from their European online shop for 29 euro, but they do take a while to ship. I wish the 3.0 CL was a bit cheaper, but if you want to splash a little cash around it is very nice, and fixes the complaints with the earlier CL.
Just out of curiosity, what is hanging up? Is the spring too stiff or is the top (where the depower rope runs through) bent downwards? I could totally see how that would stop the lever from sliding out and releasing that finger.

The 1 inch metal finger has a loop at the end that encircles a lateral 1 inch metal rod that is anchored in the plastic housing. It hangs up on that rod. Clear as mud?

Yeah - exactly what I was muddily describing above. There's a big spring inside the plastic housing that takes a lot of force to push. If that's blocked in some way that would be a problem.
Oh - I also remember seeing a video somewhere where someone was bending that finger at an angle with a vise - I think that gets stuck if it doesn't slide out correctly.
(found it)

The part that is hanging up is a different part than in the video. Thanks for the link but I don't think I'm willing to spend that much on the project. (After all life is full of risk and not releasing smoothly is just one more.)
It would be nice to just replace the loop and rod pieces - which is where the hang up is.

It's just a standard FS QL? Are you sure you're setting it up correctly? How is it "hanging"?

Yeah... I got a kite. Or two...

I have that same setup on the bar that came on my peak 12m. The cross pin appears to be pressed in and not removable.

The other side with the loop is retained by a removable pin held from falling out by a small split ring.

I would think that it would only be a complete assembly replacement or possibly replacing the black plastic/pin assembly, and tying the bungie's for tension.

So the pin isn't flopping down smoothly when you pull the QR? Is it binding when there's no load on it?

Eric, that is exactly it, but I was hoping someone would say you simply tap out the pin and easily find a replacement swivel.

Yes, Kam, it binds without any load.

Tami,
Peak 1, uh, . . . . , err,. . . . um, . . . that doesn't sound safe at all.
I hate to hear about you being at risk.
Please just send the kite to me directly to prevent any mishaps.

Tami, Do me a favor and send me the images of your QR and is possible even a little video of the action. If it's something that can't be a simple fix, I have them in stock.

That's bizarre, I've never heard of that :o I'm assuming of course that there's no grit or salt packed into the eye of the pin? No damage to the black body?

If the pin was pressed in, it can be pressed out. I've removed/replaced pins on the Infinity 1 without issues.

Rotate the pin back and forth a few hundred times and it will smooth out the action.
