New Digs on Jekyll Island replaces old Rah Bar

Hey Gang
Joan and I took a neighbor to lunch today and used the opportunity to check out the new restaurant on the wharf that used to be the "Rah Bar" and "Lattitude 31", both co-located on the wharf stretching out to the Intracoastal Waterway in front of the Jekyll Island Club Hotel.

The Rah Bar and the adjacent Lattitude 31 both failed last year after extensive damage from the storm that was Hurricane Matthew. The Rah Bar was a popular hangout for many JIBE attendees, so I thought it worth reporting on the new property.

The new restaurant is called "The Wharf" (a real stretch on creativity there). It is now one complete restaurant with expanded deck and inside bar conjoined with a restaurant featuring mostly high-top tables. It is operated by the Jekyll Island Club Hotel and the prices reflect it. No more galvanized ice buckets full of Coronas but an upscale menu of bar-food with less emphasis on shell-fish. The deck is elegant and comfortable with awnings resembling sails.

They have live music on the deck at the end of the week and weekends. Sunsets should still be spectacular if not a bit more costly.

We've since been back to the Warf for another full business lunch with a visiting guest and it was really quite good.

Menu is available at... http://jekyllwharf.com/

Bobby, you'll have a hard time recognizing the island. But at least the beach is much the same if not a little bigger thanks to the storm.

Fiona and I definitely have to be back next year otherwise it get's expensive. I can't remember if the rule is missing 2 years in a row or missing more than 3 years in a row or more and you have to buy a round for everyone. It'll be good fun to ride with everyone again in the spring and meet up with Bobby at the new bar for a refreshment after!
