NAPKA Membership for WBB

Everyone has been very helpful giving us WBB newbies an idea of the where to go and what to bring. NAPKA membership has not been made clear. Is it recommended or required? If required, can it be purchased at WBB? More information would be helpful.

Membership is required for pilots that are "in motion". Guests/visitors, and pilots flying static, are not required to display a membership number.
It is possible to purchase/renew your membership at WBB, but in all fairness, it should be looked after in advance.
I say this because Rich looks after it and it can take valuable time away from being in the buggy. :wee:
(Rich, please correct me if I'm wrong. I really do need to figure this out.)

Here is the link: http://www.napkra.org/membership.php

I believe that one of the conditions that must be met to obtain our permit from Wildwood is insurance. This is provided through NAPKA and is made possible by our memberships.

Formally speaking:
Displaying your number: You should have a minimum of 2 number placards with digits at least 5.5 inches high, 2 inches in width using a .75 inch letter stripe width, (Font: Helvetica), in black on a white background. One should be visible from each side a third placard can be added to the back of a buggy. For those pilots using kite skates, dirt surfers or ATB/Land boards you must visibly display your number on your chest and back on some type of garment possibly like a vest, ( the high visibility green or orange vests are readily available at most home centers or safety equipment stores ) The number size requirements are the same as with the buggies.

If you take a look at some of the event photos (https-//flic.kr/s/aHsk9JgYzt), you'll see various versions on the theme for buggies. Those on boards should be wearing their number on an armband. (At WBB, we have taken some liberties with the formal NAPKA regs on this.)

The intent is to be identifiable by the general public. Fortunately, some have turned it into an art, and there are some great-looking number plates as a result.

(In a pinch, there's always someone with some extra plastic, a sharpie, and zip-ties so that plates can be made quickly. Just ask me.)

I'm a little overwhelmed with this number thing. I'm traveling by air from Texas and am hard pressed to bring two kites, helmet, harness in addition to my clothes. I was hoping that I could make a few runs with a borrowed buggy. This number thing does not fit this plan at all. I don't mind joining and supporting the organization but number plates just will not work.

So, if you're going to borrow a buggy, it'll probably already have plates on it.
And if there aren't:

It's a good 15-minute investment ;)

A helmet is also required.
You can log into the NAPKA website and fill out the registration form and pick out a number. You might want to see if the number you pick is taken by looking at the pilot list. You can also contact Morrie Williams here on the forum, he is the man in the know about regestering.

As long as the buggy you borrow to ride at WBB has a number plate and you are a registered member there won't be a problem. It's all about following the rules of accountability and responsibility to others who are not members and to the members themselves.

Correct on all aspects above guys, thanks. Been busy working 60 hours a week at one job, applying and securing another job, working side jobs, and getting all other info gathered for WBB and turned in. Needless to say not much time for much else currently:D I get here when I can.

Burt, register at the link Howard provided above, or wait till you get there either way, I always find a way to make time for visiting and meeting new folks.

If you are borrowing a buggy, or just taking a buggy for a spin here or there, the numbers on that buggy will cover you, as Jeff stated.

I guess I need to go to the WBB thread and put an update on there for NAPKA registration. Again sorry, I slipped. :D.

Come as you are, we will show you love and friendship, a great time you will have and just like Jeff, you won't be able to stay away, not that we want him too:D

Oh, and yes I have number plate material in my trailer at all times. With that, a magic marker and some zip ties I can hook anyone up in a jiffy! Temporarily of course.:D

Ps can you tell I like the little grinning guy!
