I have recentley been learning how to fly a flexifoil kite and stumbled on your site.
Considering that I have been rollerblading for many years and have been into the extreme air time side of things jumping stairs, ramps etc. I am
itching to combine the two. I am interested in really progressing to ultimately getting airtime not unlike the awesome pics of the guys in your kite
sking gallery section.
I was wondering if it is possible to get this sort of hang time/air on doomwheels?
I have yet to find any pics of anyone doing this sort of thing on doomwheels, even after an extensive search on the net. Would this be due to the
fact that the skates are quite heavy and more designed for speed? As I am guessing it would not be easy to control doomwheels on landing aerial
maneuvers?
With wanting to ultimatly achieve air and big jumps (rather than speed) would you have any suggestions on what materials I should use before
constructing my own doomwheels such as:
* Smaller and lighter wheels, say around 8"
* Use of hi grade alloy rails for less weight (even though I know you advise steel for strength)
Also considering most of my kitesurfing will be on the beach would wider tyres work better for those conditions, like those used on mountain boards?
Two things I can see that are different are: You can not get the edge planted as well on wheels for pop. The folks getting the extra high floaty
jumps on snow are taking advantage of rising air coming up the hill + the hill dropping below.
I'm only starting to jump with wheels so this info is more and idea than fact !
I recommend getting Coyote Rollerblades on Ebay. They go for around $100 us. usually. Saves a TON of agro' + gives you a great start, you could mod.
them easy if you wanted a "doom " stance. So far stock Coyotes are doing fine for me !
Yeah coyote's do seem pretty good. More maneuverable much better for grabbing an edge just not sure how great they would be on sand. If it was
compacted hard sand near waters edge I guess.
Bee good to try and make some modified lighter mor maneuvaerable doomwheels kind of like I said in my previous posts seeing I have a spare pair of
roces rollerblades.
Has anyone used smaller wheels on their doomwheels like around 8"? How they go?
Also has anyone use a "kitewing" with doomwheels? Man those things are awesome.
With enough power I don't see why you couldn't jump with a set of doom wheels, People jump with a 50lb buggy strapped to their backside all the time.
Just need to figure out the wheel combo, big enough to float over the sand, small enough to hold an edge, You may have to try a couple sizes to see
what works for your area. We're having the same problem with ATB's on our beaches, the sand flats are suprisingly soft, even a buggy with Barrows on
it can dig in. We've got a couple ATB's equipped with wider turf wheels for a mower, but I don't know how wide flat slicks would work on skates.
It is possible to plant an edge and to get air with doomwheels style kiteskate. The danger lies in the speed you are going. Kiteskates are able to
powerup conciderably against the pull of the kite and that usually translates to high speed.
I've often done pendulem style lifts at the end of a sailing line using the jump to set me on a new course in the opposite direction, though I have
not tried kitesurfing style jumps mid-course. I think it may be hard to land on such a high platform (6 inches) and with the wheels perfectly inline
with your course. You're not able to slip sideways after landing as you can with a mountianboard. Best chance would be to use a seat harness and keep
all your weight low in your seat while in the air. Keep your knees up until ready to land - this may help set your wheels down in the right direction.
8 inch wheels? Might be good for jumps but bad for speed or rough terrain. The smaller the wheels - the rougher and less stable the ride. Coyotes? Too
stumbly for me. Keep 'em under 15mph and on super smooth surface. Worthless in soft sand.
ULTRA SMOOTH FLAWLESS FLOATY JUMPS. THAT WILL GET YOU THERE. COYOTES FOR BACKWARDS/FRONT TO BACK HOPS, EASIER TRANSITIONS.
12" AND 8" GOT THEM BOTH. 8 IS A LITTLE MORE FRIENDLY TO USE. CRUISING A LINE IS NICE, THE SPEED INSANE. JUMPING HAS NEVER EVEN BEEN A
CONSIDERATION YET. THEY CAN be NASTY & SQUIRRELY OVER THE OUTSIDE EDGE.
maybe so, they do flex (more like chatter&shake)i have noticed esp. when i try to load the edge sharply, that's why i really only get cruising
out of them. a lighter person could fair better with the alum. rails. and as i said before..... the speed just seems endless, i have moved on to
coyotes and love the easy comfort with pop to front & back and the float with the PL def promising air . the most challenging part is being well
powered on the skates for a jumping conditions.... 10-12mph is cruising friendly with good control... time will add more speed, comfort and
progression.
the transitions with is coyotes much easier . and i am adding the lift (more like pop/hop change up).
BR the FS i have is just to collapse prone and want even consider it with the skates. the low wind power and speed is there with the atb/FS combo
but the PL is really the flight master go to rig.
an open run with the doomset would be choice, but the freq. of trans. that i encounter the coyotes just seem better for stability and control and
easier recovery. the doomset is hard to go back to AT this POINT , but the fall will give me more time on them.
the mini froward jumps(lifts) are just begging for breeze. i am cautiously adding power.
considering putting the doomwheels on the "pass the doom" since i have coyotes now
True Coyotes are better suited for freestyle skating and jumps. Doomwheels are better for high speed, long runs and big kites. Take your Dooms out to
a dry lake. You'll love 'em!
I'm actually getting to pull off the odd jump on the Coyotes. It is best with a huge kite. That makes up for the lack of edge.
Coyotes are built tough so stand up to the landings with no problem. Landings aren't as difficult as I thought but I feel pretty stable generally on
them.
my thoughts exactly on the dry run with the doomset and big kite and jumps with the coyotes.
I am going to try and make a trip out to vegas to get out inthe dry lake scene. i am trying to get a vid of coyotes rides...the world needs more
right guys.
BR, BOB
the COYOTES have just bumped the atb off the "go to" grab list. Jumps are coming, so far small ones but the landings are easy and smooth the turns
on transitions i've smoothed out to like slalom water skiing. the sliding is cool but slipping out is beating up my hips and elbows. i have done
backwards runs but this really isn't "SWITCHED" feels more like riding blind. confused on the terms.
like BR said these things have a lot of potential. totally fits me
the coyotes also makes Launching, recovery, and getting around in general easy.
What size boots are on your dooms Chad? I will never find size 13 coyotes and with your hip and elbow comment, I'm not sure I'm enough of a freestyle
mind to be a fit with those anyway. The doomwheels have always had a cruiser look to them and look like I could get along with them in a smooth
breeze. Worst case, I could put my inline skate boots on your frames just to give them a try at the soccer field with some padded shorts and knee and
elbow pads. :bouncing:

I'm thrilled to have another Coyote Convert !
If all goes well we may be a gang of 4 at NABX this year :wee:
Maybe we can have a race on the buggy folks circuit ? !
My favorite ride will always be skis but Coyotes are as close as I get most of the year.
size 13 on the doom. you are welcome to them. def good on the cruise. actually on a line easy, BUT they are not skates. even with pro level
inline skills this are a handful. the kite launch and recovery is really cumbersome.
Bbob the turns i 've worked out are alot like water skiing maybe snow as well.
Hey BR and MD, are you guys just loading and jumping the Coyotes or are you actually hitting a ramp? I'm not there yet but was catching some
inadvertent air on the lake drifts last winter and am going to be pushing it this winter. I have a small skate ramp kicking around though - might make
for some Coyote fun before the snow flies? Or am I asking for trouble?
I've water skied for 32 years, barefoot skied for 26, snow skied for 28 years, and inline skated on flat terrain for 13. I'm not what I'd call pro
level anything, but just a rounded amount of balance driven hobbies most of my life. I guess you start with the dooms perp to the wind and then roll
downwind to start? Sounds easy but I'm sure it is just about impossible the first many times. I'll pay shipping to give them a try. I can't believe
you wear 13's. :bigok:

start with the dooms perp to the wind and then roll downwind to start?
Start standing with the skates pointing towards your kite on the ground (parked 45 degree off-wind for best results). You will roll directly toward
the kite when launching and then turn to a cross-wind direction immediately afterward.
jumps are rolling forward, with big kite power and speed ...more like leaning back and hop to air actually all very smooth. kite work about 75%,
position and push 25%. with my v13 every thing is a little faster, the v16 just picks me up at speed when i send it back up for a lift.
BB you will flow into the wheels easy, launch, roll and curve slowly against the kite, rinse and repeat
Hi there fellow kite bladers, I'm new to this site. I'm from the land down under, Australia. Ive been inline bladeing for 5 years, flying kites for 11
years, power kites with buggies for 2 years.
Once I viewed the doom blade videos I was hooked and had to make some my self. Now for me going left and right, back and forward on land, even at
speed was boring. I had to go up and fly with my blades, I knew that if I can go 2 metres up in a buggy I could do the same with blades. Now, to let
you know, its so effortless in blades compared with a buggy, cause you can bend your knees and jump to get extra hight. I'm getting 2-2.5 metres. I
use a Flexifoil Blade IV 6.5, what an awsome kite, with heaps of float. I'll get some pictures or video footage soon.
Here's that video I promised. A friends wife filmed me on a great day of kiting, earlier we were racing each other up the beach at 60klm (sorry don't
know in miles). Winds were too light for bigger jumps

Well here are some great photos taken by our resident photographer and buggier Nigel, over the week end, with some of the melbourne boys and I (on the
blades) going off. as you can tell Ozone is my Kite of choice.
You've got to make the effort to get some jumps in Bladerunner. Not sure if you know how to position your kite in the air. If you need some pointers,
I'd be more than happy to post a step by step process. But If you are jumping try getting your self some shin pads and some pants with hip and bum
padding. Cause when I started jumping over 1.5 to 2m it hurts if you make a mistake.
