Hotel accommodations

Howdy!

So I'm contemplating a trip to DBBB this year, with a detour to the Texas Renaissance festival either the weekend before or the weekend after.

I'd have to travel relatively light, so would be looking to hotel it for my stay. With the location change do the recommended hotels change? People not camping, where are you staying? Are there any room codes? Room blocks? I'd be nice to have company.

Trying to get logistics ironed out and make sure it's feasible. Been slammed with extra work recently, which gives the cash for the trip, but no time to plan. :)

Hey Chip

We do not have a host hotel anymore. People are making there on plans as to where to stay. I think some will be camping out at slp also.

The Super 8 in Galveston is probably the best deal. It's at 61st and Seawall (behind the Waffle House) so it's an easy drive to SLP (you miss most of the stoplights).

The Motel 6 in Freeport is good too.

Closer in there are some small no-name motels in Surfside.

Then, closest of all is the Galveston State Park if you want camping with accommodations.

Camping at SLP is iffy. You may get run off if you're not fishing. Option at that point is to cross the SLP Toll Bridge ($2) and camp on the beach a bit further south. Note campfires must be built above ground. No digging into the sand for fire pits.

Hey Chip,
The Super 8 in Galveston (409-740-6640) should have an opening since I had to cancel my reservation today. Looks like I won't be going to DBBB after all. I have some bruised ribs and some scrapes from a fall that will keep me from buggying or cooking so I decided not to go.

Have fun,
Joe Irby
