snapped kite killers

yo went out in some mmint winds today 14 15 mph winds but near to the end of the kite session i let my m8 have a go with my kite wind picked up he only like 9 stones it picked him up he let fo of the the handles and let the kite killer take place once he did tht one of the killer snapped so if any one has got a 3.6m beamer and that has happen can u tell me wat u did to replace them cuz there are not any power kite shops near me so if any one has any info on wat to do can u tell me plz plz plz

You don't describe how and what part snapped ? How long you have had it ?
Things get worn out. You should inspect your gear BEFORE heading out. Definately before loaning it out.
If the cord snapped, re-tie it. If the stitching came undone, take it to a boot shop and have them re-sew it. If the kite is new, contact HQ by internet and they'll probably send a replacement strap.
Play safe and stay in school. Get your M8 to teach you the Queens English !

I emailed Tim at HQ about this as I had something a little similar happen to mine this past weekend. I'm sure he'll try his best to resolve the issue.

Hi,
My girlfriend got pulled over and didnt let go straight away. The wind gusted and pulled the handles out of her hands. That snapped one of the Kite Killers. Its nearly a brand new kite (flown less than ten times). I've replaced both lines wiht slightly longer 200kg test lines cause i felt that the brakes were being applied in normal flight.

The lines were about a pound from a kite shop in Brighton, UK. Air Born Kites.

Seems like kite killers shouldn't break if you've released the kite in a gust - why else have them. I like shock cord loaded webbing straps like the Ozone killers, similar to many kite bar leashes, and I sew my own that way.

You mention adding longer 200kg lines. How about just knotting the upper and lower handle leaders to let you adjust the relative brake vs. power line tension? I like 3 knots on my brake leaders, say 3" apart, and then a couple knots on the top leaders, say 1-1/2" apart. This gives you a wide range of unique tuning postions so you can keep all lines in set the same length.
