toxic or twister

I was looking at getting a 5.5 twister or a 6.5 toxic. I am 220 lbs and our normal wind is between 7-12 mph. I only fly static now but might get a landboard in the future. I use a kite to get a good work out and do some jumps and scudding. Which kite would be more fun for static flying?

Thanks.

They are very similar kites. The Twister has a bit more lift and the toxic has a bit more grunt.
For the future the Twister has the edge as a landboard kite and the Toxic for Buggy.

in 7-12mph I would fly my 6.6m Blade static and I'm about 50lbs lighter than you so I would maybe look at the 6.5 toxic out of the 2 kites you are considering.

Also consider a Flexifoil Blade at around 6m or going even bigger and getting a 7.7 Twister or 8.0 Toxic as you have a 4.0m already. Bigger is better for static jumping as you can use smaller kite movements so its less easy to screw up :D

Do you fly with a Harness? Even in light winds I would consider using a strop between your handles so you can hook in to a harness for a rest and for jumps

You will have fun whichever kite you get of those mentioned.

Thanks for the advice. That's exactly what I was looking for. I will look into a blade as well. Also, thanks for the size advice. I wasn't sure on that either.

Just be careful with the blade...I have one and hardly ever get to break it out of the bag due to gusty/unclean winds...They can be very unforgiving under those conditions...One minute your smiling looking at your kite zooming across the sky...the next minute it's your butt 10 feet off the ground...

Yeah I get the same kind of winds here as well. Maybe the toxic would have a little less lift than the blade or twister to even out the gusts?

I can vouch for the 8m Toxic being a great buggy kite. The upwind is just crazy on it. It also turns very quick for such a big fixed bridle. I also have a ton of fun flying it static. It does not have much lift if you park it at zenith, but if you send it across the zenith at speed it will give you plenty of air, and it will let you down nice and easy. I once got way higher than I expected, but had no trouble landing safely, even with bad redirect timing.

I don't have experience with the Twister, although I have heard it can compare pretty well with the Blade for static jumping.

I can static fly in 3mph, but have to work it to keep it in the air. I can buggy around 6mph with work, and park and ride around 10mph. I will static up to 15 mph if the wind is clean, and buggy in about the same. I don't have a wind meter, so I am going off of forecasts for my beach I fly. You can jump starting at about 8 mph I think. If you ever plan to jump with it, be good at redirects because it will overfly zenith and bowtie after your feet get back on the ground.

I definitely plan to jump with it. I currently do small jumps with the 4 meter twister and came to the realization that jumping with a bigger kite in lighter more predictable wind is better than trying to jump with a smaller kite in high gusty wind.

I have a Twister 7.7 and it is a hoss. While it has alot of float I DO NOT fly it in gusty wind or over its wind range 15mph....It is just to sketchy. At the beach with steady winds I think it would be a jumping fool at the 15 mph top end. (195lbs)

This is very true of the 1st and second edition Blades and the Blade III still demands some extra caution. The IV is more stable - I have not flown a V.

The Toxic will be safer for sure but a little harder to jump with. I fly in the same wind range as Demoknight. I would say 8-12 mph is its sweetspot

lol I love jumping with my 5M Toxic. Im 135lbs and get some good fun out of it. I just float around for awhile before it sets me down on the ground :) Im very cautious and picky about the winds though really nothing past 15mph for me. A perfect day for me on the Toxic is 11-12mph nice steady

Thanks for everyone's help. I have pretty much decided on the 5.5 twister for its lift. I probably would go bigger if we didn't get such gusty wind.
