DBBB Hotel/Motel Rates
For many years Carolyn Weir made the arrangements with the Galveston "Galvez" hotel for DBBB discount rates, then for a few years myself and Keith
Anderson arranged the discount rates with the Galvez Hotel and Sandpiper Motel. Last year AJ and Dave took on that task.
Has anyone done that this year? If so, what are this year's DBBB rates.:?:

Things have changed a lot on the hotel scene in Glaveston over the past couple of years.
Last years hurricanes meant the hotels were still full of refugees during dbbb and as a result the Galvez didn't honor any of our guest's confirmed
reservations. Fortunately there were only a couple guests that had to scramble at the last minute for a cheaper room somewhere else. Also they were
less than fully cooperative even before the hurricanes hit so we won't be actively pursuing them any longer.
The deal with the Sandpiper is actually no deal since we haven't been meeting the minimum number of rooms to get the discount. For those that like
staying on the beach and making buggy runs between their rooms and East Beach it's a good deal... though I would only stay in the beachfront rooms as
the off-water rooms are pretty run down.
Also, Galveston is running so many weekend gambling cruise ships now that the weekend rates of all the hotels have gone up. So, as a result of all
mentioned above it was decided that everyone do their own shopping for the best deal. Here's a link to most of the hotels (Motel 6 isn't on the
list) with their rates for that week...

My current favorite is the Super 8. Big clean rooms, decent rates, located near popular restaurants, and even though internet access is listed as only
in the lobby, I was able to connect wirelessly in the room for free.
The Beachcomber may also be a good deal (my past favorite). They're next to the Super 8 (and Waffle House) and have been completely remodeled after
losing their roof last year to Hurricane Rita.

Sandpiper Motel
Keith Anderson told me a little over a week ago that the Sandpiper motel has just recently remodeled all/part of their rooms. For sure the beach front
rooms.
That is where Keith and I are staying.

Cool! I was thinking of doing the same for a day or two. I cut down an oak tree a month ago and split it into firewood... would be nice to have a
warm fire on a November evening at the beach.

New mattress and TVs at the Sandpiper. Not sure the if the off shore rooms will be any better. That would take a wrecking ball. The place is pet
friendly:rodent:. And bug friendly .
Really, Kates and I are taking a Gulf front room. Rates quoted were:
Thanksgiving Day $40 (+$20 for Gulf)
Thurdsay & Saturday $60 ea (+$20 for Gulf)
They will give a 10% discount if you ask.
Thanks Cat!!!
See you there!
