dual purpose kites for low wind?

Got the green light to get some ripstop and I'm hoping to get advice on something I can ise on water AND land. This may be wishful thinking but hoping to get something that can get my 220# butt going on a door in 10ish winds but can still perform in inland conditions. Big speeds or LEI are obvious choices and though I love arcs I think the Charger 22.5 or the Phanny 24 might not be enough. I'd love to see what everyone has to suggest here. Keep in mind, never flown on the water and looking to get my first lesson/s in July for my birthday.

Any and all advice is sincerely appreciated :)

This will be interesting.

It sounds like my local bay may be open again next summer ? If so I will need to work with typical 8 - 10kt wind . Not quite enough wind to push up white caps.

I'll send off a link to a local discussion on this topic from my local forum. Fat lady seems popular ?

I have a slight weight advantage at 145lbs.. I have decided that I am after a 19m Speed .

Kites: 2.5m Profoil , Quadrifoil XL kitesurfer, NPW 5 Danger.
Flexifoil: 1.7m Sting, 4.9m Blade 3, 9m Blade 2.

Peter Lynn :18m Phantom, 15m Synergy, 10m Synergy, 1200 Farc, 460 Sarc, 130 Tarc, 5m Peel, 4.2m , 6.4, 8.5 C-Quads, 3.5 LS2 single skin.

I'm thinking if your talking 10+ (but under 20mph) wind and amphibious kite your looking at 24M Phantom, 18M Matrixx, or FlySurfer$$.
I'm 210lbs and novice water boarder.

I haven't used my 24M Phanny on the water yet...but couple things look promising...
1. Auto-zenith....I figure if I splash hard, and the kite hasn't been driven into the water, let the bar go and it will work it's way back up and wait for me to fix myself and recover my board
2. No bridles = less tangles
3. You mentioned you may fly inland...they call ARCs "gust munchers" for a reason.

But, if money is no object....21M Flysurfer sounds like the other best option. Otherwise, I'd have a Flysurfer too....as I fly mostly in those winds as well.

Me giving you advice on this would be like a smurf telling the jolly green giant what running shoes to buy,... But anywho, just some thoughts:

You know arcs, so that's what seems to make sense to me. Herb is right too, auto zenith seems like a good idea while you right yourself in the water. Only problem I see is that lessons will likely put you under an LEI.

I'm sure Carl the bullet can tell you all about how awesome kite surfing a Charger is!!!

To me it just make sense that if you're interested in learning a new genre of riding, why add having to learn a new kind of kite... I know they're not terribly different, but the existing experience and muscle memory you have developed with the arcs seem like they would benefit your learning what to do with the rest of your body/board.

And I'm sure you've heard like the rest of us that the Charger is supposed to be more surf friendly than the Phanny...

Just my 2 pennies...

I'm going to take a nap now
