Hi everybody.
I would really like some help on choosing another kite to start my quiver collection. I have a ozone flow 1'2 meter, which I have been flying for the past year and a half. Only reasontly have I started buggying and found that most of the time the wind is just not strong enought to get me going,or its way to gusty. I would like to get a bigger kite but not sure if I should stick with a larger ozone flow or try a different brand.I've been looking at the HQ Beamer V 4m but I'm not to sure if its the right choice. I live in Las Vegas and have been to ivahnpa dry lake bed once to try buggy out there. ( it wasn't the best experience) so most of the time I go to a local soccer field to practice buggying. Any info would be greatly appreciated.

The HQ Beamers are great kites, as are the Ozone Flows.

Read over everything Angus has put in his turorial . He has done a great job of touching on most of the things you want to know.

I believe that the locals get together for a regular Friday night fly in Vaegs ? Going to one of those and meeting up the locals will be the best thing you can do. Beamer Bob is a great guy but the town is full of great pilots. More than just Him to learn from and they all are willing to help you!

Thanks for the tips. I've Hurd about the Friday night fly, but unfortunately i always work Friday night so I never get the chance to go. I will definatly call kent and and find out what else is going on.

you will find a huge difference in your kite requirements for given winds depending on if your on the grass or dry lake. Your little flow should get you going on the lake bed without a crazy amount of wind. but in the grass you will need 20mph+ most likely to get moving much at all.

There will be a bunch of us invading you at ivanpah the first week of april. Come out and play with us tourists

I took the buggy to the field today with winds around 12 mph, it got me gong for a little bit then I would stop and have to wait for the wind t pick up. More frustrating than anything. I would love to go to nabx this year but can't justify spending the $100 to go for one day (work duty calls) and also that would be money used for the next kite I want to buy.
I might try for a Peter Lynn 3.8 or 5.3 viper.

there is no nabx this year. all you need is your free blm permit and your good to go. So all it will cost you is gas to come on out. No excuses

That sounds perfect. Hopefully I'll have made up my mind on which kite to buy so ill get a chance to use it out there.

Hey there,... I started with a 3m Beamer in the buggy. It's a great kite to learn with, but I found its lacking upwind capability had me wanting something different before too long.

I fly PL vipers and cores now,... Both great buggy engines with good upwind capability but unfortunately both discontinued by PL.

I would say if you can get your hands on a viper either used or new pick it up. They are great stable and forgiving, and they go upwind very well. I also hear great things about PKD kites but have no experience with them.

I would say any of the distributors on this forum are great to deal with and won't steer you wrong if you exchange emails with them and let them know what you're looking for and what you're going to use it for.

I've talked to Big mike a few times and he has given me a lot of good choices. He does have 1 5.3 m viper left, but mentioned that it probably wouldn't be the best choice for me next kite. I'm steering towards the PL core or the HQ toxic. I going to see kent at wind of change tomorrow to see what he has and suggests.

Since you have a 1.2m I would suggest something in the 3m range. You dont want to leave holes in your quiver. Also when you learn to appreciate the great playa that you have there you will most likely not need anything over 3.5m for most normal conditions. But others that are local will be able to give you better advice.

Kent and Corey should be able to point you in the right direction. Always best to support your local shop cause they will also support you.

Hey RK. I'm local and would be happy to meet up with you and let you try some different size kites. I have beamers and Toxics from 2-5m. I agree with Dino that a 3m is your logical next step.

The grass at the soccer field is much more forgiving when learning. I will U2U my phone number to you.

Corey is the one that started me with my first1.2m ozone. Of course I wanted to go bigger from the start. I'm glad I didn't. I mentioned that I had flowen those stackable flex foil way back in the early 80s .he still suggested starting small. I see why.

I just want to say thanks to everybody that has replied to my post, you guys are very helpfull and can't wait to get to the chance to meet and fly with everyone one day.
