that is when you know that you have started to get some kite handling skill when you can start recovering from luffs and bowties without crashing/ landing the kite.

I have recovered from luffs... I don't think I've ever recovered from a bowtie. Luckily my Guerilla should be here this week so maybe I'll have some opportunities to do give it a whirl :)
