Its so good to see some kitejumping again. It seems like there hasn't been any strait up kite jumping stuff in a long while. I really enjoyed kite jumping before I started landboarding

very cool

yeah I noticed those 2 line handles right away. I've heard of others taking the brake lines and bridles off Blades in the past. Why?

Nice jumping! That was some amazing float. I've never flown an 8.5 but I imagine its a load of fun.

Hi everybody,
of course, I began with 4 lines first but two is very comfortable with a mk3 8.5 or more.. ;_)
it provides good floats because I can use 50m lines, what I can't do with brakes...
If u get gusts, you just have to wait and enjoy the second jump :bouncing:

Just got into power kiting with a Beamer V3 quad line. At 25mph wind it drags me down the beach pretty good. I am 240 lbs......any suggestions on what it would take to get me in the air like the videos?

A bigger kite.....

.... plus more skill and practice. You can hurt yoursef badly even if you have the skills. Take it in small steps ...take a lesson even.

A little help to J'DRAGME..

I have been lifted by kites as small as a 3m in strong winds- and so can anyone if the wind is strong enough.

...lots of different factors to be considered. Not all kites( of same size ) have the same power-by their shape /design/ aspect ratio. Also, some kites are 'lifty' ..some are not so. Any kite handled the right (or wrong) way- swinging thru the power window with the right technique- has the potential to lift you in strong enough wind

THE TROUBLE.. and key part- is having a size kite with enough 'FLOAT" in supporting you in landing back down slow and smooth. If wind is gusty and drops...you might drop also. Even if wind is steady, you want enough kite to support your weight on descent. If your only a few feet off the ground..not so big a deal. If you are say..8 feet or more(some on here have, I think, been up to 2 stories high - go upstairs and look out your window to imagine!) uhh-ohh! How well can you compress and absorb a fall?.. you're no cat!

This is why larger sizes are often used in jumpin over buggying for a given wind speed. Some here have said their minimum size is about a 5m kite in fixed bridal. Depower I cannot say sizes..others can ...but in general- they are LOTS safer..
..steadier in all pusuits.. absorbing gusts..holding position...VERY FLOATY!

The idea is to come down slowly.. and not drop like a rock.

Manufacturers and kite shops are BEST source for recommended kites for jumping. Maybe a real expert jumper on here may have better to say... some may be reluctant as it a more dangerous aspect of traction kiting and one that YOU REALLY SHOULD HAVE A LESSON ON and not read about..... and no one wants to be responsible if you hurt yourself.

*Note that the guy jumping in earlier video and one below have no helmet or padding. They never seem to in these videos. Not a good idea.... even if one knows exactly what he's doing and conditions...

Now as a warning or discouragement-just like they make you watch the accident film(do they still show this in driving schools?) in driving class... Why you might want a lesson or two...

When jumping goes wrong:

Hi JUSTDRAGME ,

I'm agree with skimtwashington. It looks like easy but it is not.. I practice kite jumping since 3 years and I began with a PW3.5 with 4lines, then a reactor 3.5, then pw4.5, blade V 6.5 and blade III 8.5. I tried MKIII 10.5 too...
It could be dangerous to use a big kite without technical and muscular (the most important) training ;-)
But you can begin in low winds

fwiw the guy in that video did survive, but broke multiple ribs, an arm, a leg, & hip as I recall from seeing the video before. He did not return to kiting.

In that Jump record video from 97 it looks like the guy is flying a Mandabule ?

Do you ever see those come up for sale in France Seb' ? I wonder why the company never took off ? Sort of 2 line arcs ?

nice tricks asesino ;-)

Bladerunner, yes, you saw a mandibule (in your video too asesino... ;-)).
The recordman is manufacturing these kites himself... so he is alone in his "home made company"
I think there is less than 100 in France/belgium/switzerland..

Thanks so much for that seb'
I never knew that you could still buy Mandibule. Probably because I have been spelling it wrong as I searched .

I guess there isn't exactly a used market for these ?

Profile is from MH family. This is modified MH 93. See this http://www.mh-aerotools.de/airfoils/index.htm from left menu check "Other Airfoils" You can see there MH 93. I analized my profile in this program http://www.profili2.com/eng/default.htm But not profile was by the biggest problem. The most difficult was design kite bridle. But I made it :)

here we testing first BUNE k1 8.9m :) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xDncVqiFcuQ ;-)
