Wow I sold one of these and would consider buying this one just to have for such a great price. My toy budget is contributing to the national trade deficit for the next few months however. Good luck on the sale AD. Shouldn't last too long at that price.

Sorry if I end up hijacking this post (at least it will keep it up high on the list), but I have a question about the Phantoms. You mention above that this kite is big, a gentle giant. I just got my own Phantom 15m and the thing that shocked me was how gentle the kite felt. I've never been happier connected to a big kite in my life.

As far as I know this is the highest aspect arc ever made (by a good bit), and I've always thought high aspect meant high performance and in turn, a less forgiving kite. Does this equation just not hold wit arcs? Why is this kite so friendly and well behaved?

Mike,

Have to agree with you on the comfort of the Phannys. :)

Actually, the earlier F-Arcs had a slightly higher AR - and those things are anything but "gentle" (just see hardwaterkiters posts on them).

Both are unbridled, relatively soft, and "give" with gusts. So it all must come down to aero-design subtleties.

And now back to our regularly scheduled programming...
The 18m Phanny is GREAT - esp. at THAT price!!!!

I think lad is spot on in the "unbridled" comment.

The unbridled system in arcs does not restrict the canopy shape thus allowing it to change depending on wind conditions.
Also affecting how it turns/behaves since it has no other connection points to the canopy.(Making it the gentle giant it is)

BUMP for a great kite!

Phantom is a 6.5 AR. F-Arc 1200 was also 6.5. F-Arc 1800 is 7.0 AR.

That said the 1200 F-arc is a lot more agressive than a 12m Phantom.

Could I fly on a slingshot ranger bar and lines? No experience with arcs just ozones and my ranger.... I fly in some pretty low winds in Illinois so this might work well for me.... Thanks.

Hells yeah! In fact it would be awesome with a Ranger bar and a stopper. Especially if it's the longer Ranger bar but the short bar would work too.

You may have to make some adjustments to the pigtails but maybe not. You won't know until you try it.

That bar has wicked throw and the Phantom 1 is a park and ride dream so she'll really benefit from being able to sheet in the power you want and lock it in with the stopper.

What size Ranger do you have? If it's the 12m and you didn't get it from Backcountry.com at the end of thier blowout sale it likely has the long bar.

The key with getting an Arc off the ground is preinflation. Especially with a High Ar Arc like the Phantom 1.

I had to go out and buy a shed to store all my gear. It got to the point I couldn't find another closet ceiling or bed to stuff things .

I thought I was done at 20 kites but picked up an indoor Rev' and am Jonesing at some of the deals lately.

Without a doubt the 18m Phanny is moving into #1 . Both for rotation and enjoyment. Perfect for our typical 5 - 10 kt winds !

Kites:1.5 SLE Rev\', indoor Rev\', 4.6m NPW5, 2.5m Profoil , 4.9m QuadrifoilXL kitesurfer,15m Pansh Aurora, 9m Flexi Blade II, 7m Flysurfer Pulse , 14m Gin Eskimo.
