Whoever gets there first, make sure and tell everyone to keep the pucker bumps clear! Last couple of years everyone has parked up near them, and they
are really fun to buggy on!

We (Susie and I) arrived at Harper this (Tuesday) afternoon. Much of the playa in and around the cove is soft and the dirt is loose. There should be
no problem with any cars here, but we won't be taking our 30,000 lb motorhome onto the softer stuff. We have picked a spot to the east side of the
cove which leave the entire cove open for us to play in. There should be enough room in this section for everyone.
Overall the playa is hard but still shows signs of the recent rains -- i.e. it's looks damp, but feels dry. There are large patches that will
eventually be like the potato chip playa we had last year. But, for now it's just surface dirt. We did not get very far from camp on the buggies
today so I'm not sure about the extreme middle of the lake bed, but I think it's in much nicer condition than last year. Winds today were a steady
12-15mph :-) Temps were in the mid 70's (F).
And, Dean is right, the pucker bumps over the islands are a blast to ride -- especially when the wind gusts right at the top of the island!
Darrin & Susie
P.S. The spot we picked is also the only spot in the cove where we get (4 bars of) 3G Cell reception. Thus, the ability to post this msg :-)

Good question... I forgot to mention that the dirt road into Harpers is in much, much better condition than last year. There will be no drama for
anyone bring big RVs on Power Line Road.
Directions that we used... take CA-58 and turn North on Harper Dry Lake Road (which is just North of Hinkley which is North of Barstow). Turn right
directly under the large power lines, then follow that road (under the power lines) until you get to the 3 tires in the road. 10 feet after the 3
tires, turn left and follow that road onto the lake bed. Once on the playa, turn left and we are only a few minutes from there.
One of the reasons we are here early this year is that we don't get to go play at NABX. Every other year, the World Sport Kite Championships overlaps
with NABX -- and my teammates would be really pissed if I didn't show up in France with them! So just as things get started for the main NABX event,
we are getting on a plane headed for the north coast of France where it will be cold (very cold).
