Average age?

I am somewhat of a newbie. I started kiting a little more than a year ago, just before my 45th birthday. I was a bit apprehensive starting this
sport at that age. I am really glad I stuck with it.
After attending the Montana Snowkite Rodeo last weekend and expecting most of the attendees to be younger 20 somethings, I was surprised to find that
more were my age or older. Also surprised that I couldn't tell the difference in age untill they got done kiting and came in.

It made me curious about the average age of the population here on PKF.

How many good years of kiting do I have left? Should I start selling?
Can I argue with my wife when she says I don't need another kite because I will only be able to use it for another year or two?

Apparently when you turn 40 you either buy a Porsche or a big kite. Hey I just remembered I have a Porsche down in the barn….I can sell it and get
another kite! I too just started flying last July….turned 45 in December.

I'd say keep with it until you cannot do it anymore. I've seen guys on the water who are in their 80s. I would think that buggying would be a bit
easier on your body than kitesurfing, so... it really depends on your physical fitness level.

I am 52 and I love kiting, I don't plan on stopping any time soon. If you love the outdoors, this is a great sport. Be safe and have fun. I mostly
buggy and snowkite with skis. I am learning how to mountain board but it is hard on your knees so I use knee pads and a helmet. In the summer I spend
most of my free time wakeboarding with the family. So I have not done kiting on the water yet.

i started in 1999. i was class 5 whitewater kayaker and distance runner. i rode sportbikes routinely over 150 mph. i kitesurfed in many approaching
hurricaine winds in excess of 30mph. i'll be 59 in a couple months. i still have my ww kayak, but prefer my sea kayak these days. my marathons and
associated training runs have been replace with bad knees and daily 3 mile walks. my crotch rocket was replaced by a goldwing. my favorite kite
these days is my 21m Flysurfer SPEED 3 in 8mph. yea, things change

Hey Sailors,
Thanks for bringing back such good memories.
I started power kiting back in the summer of 1977 at the age of 26.
Had to stop the stand-up stuff in the mid 90's due to deteriorating knees.
Been a landsailor since the 80's.
Started on the kite buggy in 1991 and I've been riding strong ever since.
Just had my 61st birthday.
I'll stop when they pry the kite handles out of my cold, dead fingers.

June will be 3 years kiting and always learning. 37 in July! I stick to the buggy as my knees tend to dislike the stand up side of this addiction.
