Snowkiting?

Had a wicked day today. We had powder surface but this damn winter from hell decided that we needed rain now so last night it poured.

Then today it was almost 50f and all the lakes were cover with either water or slush. After driving around for a couple hours I'd decided I'd had enough and went for a ride in the slush.

As the wind pushed the water around some of the ice started to sink. Eventually a long stretch near shore was under about 2 feet of water. So 2' of water, then thin ice layer then 10 feet of water under that.

Turns out my Rossi Phantoms make for kick ass water skis. (See pic)

Got 30 miles in for the day and more than half were on water. It was awesome!

They have some ice at Sandbar but not much. Not sure how it held up after this warm stretch and rain.

That photo is the best! Love it.

We finally had our first session sunday - 14 guys out and looked like we were finally getting some good conditions - then poured rain all day monday followed by high winds in the eve and a dusting of snow today and cold so haven't had a chance yet to see what it did to the surface.

Geeez Mark, you're making me feel a lot better about our season here.

I don't know what the temps were last night. We avoided the lakes with just a sluch surface so they could set up if it cot could enough and be smooth. If it's too warm to freeze that stuff there will still be water where I was yesterday and I'm heading back to play on that again.

It was a hoot.

Similar issues for us last weekend.

Ours was deep snow on water. I couldn't produce enough power with my 15m Syn and ended up downwind and wet. That stuff felt like sticky porridge.

I posted a picture of the day in the gallery.

A short video bit of the water riding. Wish I had a remote cam at the time but it was in my pocket.

That's some crazy sh*t....i bet you were pretty soggy after 30 miles of kiting. Looks like fun, i think i might prefer that over the bumpy, super glazed ice that has the occasional snow drift on it that i have been riding on for the last 6 weeks.

I want some *^!@#& snow!

Believe it or not I got less wet on the water than the slush covered ice. The slush being blown all over when I edge was wicked wet. Skimming the water on the other hand all I did was make a wake behind me.

The water was super quiet.
