nice ice
The weather has been wacky around here for sure. Lots of really high temps for this time of year. Today the high was 12 degrees. A record. The ice
at this spot was about 12 " thick - another lake about 50km away had only skim ice and open water. Weird warm winds have made this year quite
abnormal. One week earlier the ice was very rough at the spot you'll see in the vid.
Here is a wee vid of a speed run at Rattlesnake Lake, near Medicine Hat. Kitewing 4.8 and Nordic Skates.

The weather is a yo yo here as it is elsewhere. It was plus 12 again yesterday and it is supposed to get to -16 tonight. Hopefully everything
freezes up nice and smooth again. There was a bit of water on the top of the ice at the end of the day - but the ice was nice and hard, not slushy at
all. Very nice with the wing and the skates. Supposed to get up to plus 5C for Saturday (and windy!).

The nice ice should still be there this weekend. The weather is taking a turn next week and we should be strapping on the skis. My friend who has a
free-skate style ice board was out last week with me and made a wee vid of him teaching his nephew how to work the wind.... http://vimeo.com/34882334

The Neph's looking good on the board!
I sure miss the ice. Winter never came here. It's still "Fall-like" with no end in sight.
I think it was 5-6 years ago we had a winter like this. No ice or even snow and temps barely ever got below freezing.
Keep sending video to remind us of what winter is.

Super fast freeskate speeds on this vid...
www.youtube.com/watch?v=NixkmV8d3lM
My wife has a primitive version of iceratz's ice board that we made a few years ago. Wish I could have seen that speed run in person.
Our wacky winter gave us a big dump of snow and almost no wind for now. It will be interesting to see what the "spring" brings...
