My B-day is next week and I wanna hint for a GPS and some goggles for the buggy. What are the current models you guys are using and why...?

I've got the Garmen eTrex H and HC , they are pretty simple to set up, least expensive of the well known brands when I bought them. I only use them
for speed , distance , and sunrise sunset times (how soon can I kite and how much longer can I kite)

I also have the little yellow Garmin Etrex. My previous GPS was a Magellan Triton. Lasted around 12 months then gave me a 'fatal error' message and
locked itself up. I contacted the agents and they said 'no problem, we'll just re-flash the unit and it will be fine.....for $117.00. I basically
told them to shove it up their *&^%, for less than that I can buy a brand new Garmin. And I did, and it's great.

Foretrex 301 or 401
Googles anything that you could add the Recon MOD would make it worth your while in the long run. So you have the GPS for speed keeping and the MOD or
MOD LIVE for live speed and heads up display. Never have to look down again.

As much as I love my Transcends and as cool as the Mod Live is I think he's looking for a cheap reliable alternative.
I've been happy with the Fortrex 301 and Etrex Legend. I run those two and a Locosys GT31 and my Transcends so I have a solid supply of data.

The 301 is sweet. Cheap, easy to use and small. I wear it on my wrist usually but sometimes on my bar.
The Foretrex is a little more advanced but basically the same. They can be had cheaply as well.

Locosys GT 31 works amazingly well and is recognized by the official speed sailing bla bla blahs as a santioned unit. It's fast, accurate, easy to
use, gets great reception, floats and in low pow mode will run for like 10 yrs. (not really but a long time)

They are pretty cheap too. A great little unit for strictly measuring data.

i have a delorme pn40 i got for geocaching and hiking, travel, but thats overkill for what you want--it does have unlimited maps u can download and
thats what i like..... for measuring buggy speed, any cheap gps should suffice......

FWIW: If you still have the Triton, you can reflash it yourself. Cost= $0.00.

Tad more expensive, but if you are running primary batteries, lithiums are your friends for soooo many reasons.

I have the Foretrex as well and it works great. I'm able to use the velcro strap to attach it to the downtube although you have to read it sideways.
Having it on your wrist while snowkiting is very usefull.
