JIBE 2012 Dates Confirmed May 16-19
I have heard back from the JIA (Jekyll Island Authority) and we are good to go for 2012.
Dates are Wednesday May 16 through Saturday the 19th.
Tides will be earlier this year for 2012, with low tide at 12:20 pm on Wednesday and progressing to 2:30 pm Saturday.
Once again the Turtle Crawl Triathlon will be on Saturday in the AM but that will be done by the time the beach is usable for us.
As many have found out, a great way to do JIBE and stay close to the action affordably is to rent a house for a week though one of the two local
vacation rental agents on the island...
Parker Kaufman
Jekyll Island Realty
If you come with friends or family then this is an affordable way to go. about $1k a week split up with 3-4 bedrooms and many properties are
pet-friendly. You save more too because you can throw something on the grill rather than eat out every night.
Start to Book now!
Next year we will be coordinating with the JI Plover Patrol and other naturalists that were alarmed by our shipwreck runs due to hatchlings in the
area and we will not be going much past the southern-most boardwalk at the 4H-Center. This still gives us several mile + stretches for fully lit,
balls to the wall speed runs with few people on a broad beach. So we are really giving up the sleeves on our vests and making everybody happy. We
will come up with some other rally prize.
Web site will be updated soon in September.
More later, thanks
Angus

I'm actually hoping to have moved by then! Come on real estate buyers! Have I got a house for YOU! lol
The plan is to move to Brunswick when the house here sells. Hopefully I'll be able to provide a place to "crash" by the time JIBE comes

You scheduled it before I started yearning for it. That hardly seems possible yet it happened. JIBE 2011 was sooo much fun.
Bummer about the Plover Patrol Problems, but we'll have fun just the same.

not sure the plover patrol knows the impact ...an unfounded assumption.
actually the area past the 4-H is not that great soft sand , ton of bird Chit, off the wind a bit as well. really only takes out a 1/4 mile or
so of space. once you arrive at the "corner" i have always turned back just for point of sail reasons.
glad all is ON! nice job Angus

If the funds are still there in the spring, I will be there, looks like two weeks or so after WBB. Maybe another kite fort trip! Oh and can't miss the

since we cant run to the ship wreck next year Ive been thinking of a kite triathlon to coincide with the Turle Triathlon................3 kite
disciplines i.e, a water body drag around a fixed point (going upwind/if your a water kiter already have to ride toeside, loop transition, a table
top, s-pin or rotation required), followed by buggy and land board runs up and down wind around fixed points...............complete the 3 disciplines
get the t shirt.................too much, thoughts, other ideas.:o:wow:

JIBE web site for 2012 will be up this week. Must re-do most maps as new Convention Center will open that weekend May 20 with new road layout and no
more detours. A new roundabout in front of the Center will send traffic north, south or to the Center parking lot. Shops are still relocated north as
before for now. Their relocation comes next to the shopping village next to the Center.

Basic preliminary JIBE Web Site is up for 2012. Map is updated showing new traffic pattern with no more detours (starting next month). The Convention Center will
be opening the weekend of JIBE but that will have no effect on the beach.
Registration data will be worked out shortly, as will a lot more details on the web site, but this should get you started.
Remember that there is much to do in our Golden Isles Region for the entire family. If you have any questions or need assistance with travel
arrangements, booking, or things to do with the family. etc. , feel free to contact me directly.

I should add that anybody traveling with a group, either family or car-pooling with buddies, should consider one of the many affordable vacation
rental properties on Jekyll island. Several regular JIBE attendees report that the cost is competitive with several hotel room nights, especially
when you factor in the modest cost of groceries to cook in your own kitchen or backyard BBQ grill, compared to the cost of eating out every night.
Many are dog-friendly too, so the family pooch can come along rather than incur the cost of boarding. (leashed dogs are welcome on the beach)
Check with Jekyll Island Realty or Parker Kaufman Realty
But if you take this route, BOOK NOW, as they sell out quickly
