That is pretty cool.

Wonder a few things.

How hard packed the sand must be?

How much one costs ?

Apparently there is a two year old thread on this:

Sea-Quad - amphibious kite/sail catamaran

Kind of sad that the domain name for the product expired last month which leaves one with the impression that the venture stumbled somewhere along the way. Shame....

If took a couple of viewings in full screen for lad's final comment in the original thread to sink in:

"I think you turn with this bar at your feet, which turns the wide, thin back wheels which also act as fins in the water?"

The rear wheels are intentionally thin due to their dual role (wheels on land, rudders in the water). I think the front wheel are thicker and the combination probably allows a little bit of bogginess in the terrain before it all goes to he||.

Sam

The projected $14,000 price tag was probably way higher than the market would pay. Esp. considering a new Hobie 16 is $10,000 and that is for a boat with a 2 man crew. From the video it appears the performance of the boat on the water is way less than the Hobie's.

Mood: Went kiting....Still suffering from withdrawls

this is just what i need if i ever want to kite to south padre. start at northbeach kite down the coast 51 miles till you get to the deviding canal then take it to the water and kite over to south beach. that would be cool but definately want to keep it on the hard pack if not in the water. i think starting in washington state and kiting down the coast unsupported would actually be doable in this contraption. start on the bweach get to an area where there is rock or cliff or something and go to the water then conme ashore when its beach again and rivers would no longer be a problem. fresh water and food would have to be bought along the way though at sea side towns.
