Shredded Jekyll today

Man, we shredded Jekyll Island today at JIBE. 30 miles went by in no time on the GPS and that was with a lot of stopping to talk with bystanders and other kiters. Chris Shultz of HQ was the first to come back with a shipwreck pennant ad many more soon followed.

I think a lot of personal bests were broken and lying around shattered on the beach. Tire tracks all over the place in far reaches of the beach 5.5 miles north to south.

I clocked Dean and I at 37.7 mph with just about 8-14 mph winds, according to the local Weatherflow station on Jekyll. The beam reach when you round the southern tip of the island was screaming wide open with no one there. Great to see flocks of buggies moving in packs.

Many members of the public got a chance to fly powerkites for the first time

HQ Matrix (high performance closed-cell) made it's debut and looks great. Gotta fly it tomorrow. Chris had it out on the water in these light (for water ) winds and did well.

A lucrative set of raffle prizes has raised a lot cash for the Turtle Center, with more to go, so thanks to HQ, Peter Lynn and PKD for prizes.

Thanks to all the JIBE crew for giving me so much help schlepping stuff on and off the beach.

Tomorrow's forecast looks just as awesome so we are looking forward to ripping it up again with even more riders showing up!!

I think all the JIBE folks are passed out, burned up, sand blasted and generally spent for the night (it did take me two showers to get the sand off) Hope they can be there at 9:00 am for the Turtle Center Tour.

What were you and dean flying? I'm there in spirit and clinging to every post. You got me with envy talking about rounding the corner like when I was there with you in October.

Uh, that was Friday. Friday was, indisputably, epic. 56 miles logged on the GPS. Average speed in motion was just shy of 20 mph. Top speed was much higher. I got to fly a 7m Montana 6 fresh out of the bag. It was a great! Light bar pressure, tremendous depower, fast turning and yet quite stable. I really enjoyed it. Thanks so much to Chris and Franklin for bringing the toys. Wish you could have stayed longer.

I had started the day with my 10m Scorp but it was too small for the early winds. I left it tethered on a sandbag 'cause it was easier than finding a spot to land it in the middle of the sea of kites, buggies and bags. By 5:00 the winds had come up higher and it was like an overgrown puppy tugging on its leash as it dragged its sand bag towards the dunes. It got to the finish the day with some screaming fast runs.

My favorite part: the powerslide from full speed around the shipwreck at the end of the round-off run. Fantastic!

As for Saturday, I expect another epic day. :)

a bit heavy on pedestrian traffic but again another onshore session at JI.........winds got up to 13mph Im guessing around 330/400 pm. BuggyDan could have made $500 on tandem rides this weekend. What a great ambassador for our activity. Everyone that went out with him was stoked afterwards. One lady sent her daughter out and asked us would she have enough time to smoke a cig and grab a beer before her daughter returned.................that was needless to say a bit odd................

the were plenty of open areas north and south of kite beach and speed runs were there for the taking. Nate made a return visit to the water on my 13m P3/surfboard while Phree was phree style landboarding on the beach. Many of the crew made their last runs to the ship wreck. Drew brought back the remaining flags. Sky was blue and temps hovered around 90.....................all in all a great session, day, and event................

I was on the Phanny 15 and Dean on his old Phanny 10 proto. I was slightly over powered, skidding to the side when I asked for more, and Dean was tracking pretty straight and true.

Phantom 15 again on Friday and then tried again Saturday but i spent the whole day doing demos.

Flew the Phanny 18 for the first time on Friday! What a rush! Great power on command! Only got to 27.5 mph, but great none the less! I became very confident of the kite quickly and I was amazed at how quick it turned!

Saturday I only got to buggy about a Half hour. I spent that on the Black Widow with a Viper 5.6. Not enough kite to get going fast, but had fun with it none the less!

What a great group of guys and gals!

Tearing up the beach was just a fringe benefit of hanging out with everyone! Angus, you didn't buggy at ALL on Saturday??? THATS dedication! Thank you so much for everything you do for the sport!:thumbup::thumbup:

Also Angus, what an awesome idea to have the raffle to benefit the Sea Turtle Center! You never fail to impress me man! :)
