16m Scorpion initial flight settings

Welp, I bought a 16m Scorpion from Adam. I am super stoked about it :) but as this is my first kite with straps/VPC, I have a question.

I know it's all about personal preference, and I will do a good bit of fine tuning, but I'd like to know how you guys have your Scorpions set. I was thinking steering straps loose, flight strap half way, VPC set furthest away from the kite? I want the most lift and direct power possible, but I also want a fair amount of depower available and I don't want my kite to be stalling on me.

Mood: low winds here I come

With our craptastic inland winds I've found it to fly best with all three set loose. I did have one nice day all three set halfway. Never any luck adjusting the center different from the outside ones. I haven't flown the scorpion since last summer, so I can't tell you where I have the bridle adjusted. I do remember having found a point where the bar pressure wasn't too much, but not too loose either. Hopefully I'll get to let it breathe within the next month as the water opens up and the beach dries. Nothing like tying the kite to the bumper while you get your wetsuit on or take a quick lunch break. Sorry I have no more info to give ya. I'd say just play around with it till you find your sweet spot. Make sure you have it good and inflated or else its a real pain to have it bowtie right off the start.

Good Luck

make sure you add extension to your rear line connect points on the kite if not already there........I had a 2, 4, and 6 inch knots tied on each rear line leader.................I remember the kite flying best on the 4" knots.......................

Straps ... I like tip straps loose, center strap up tight and max effect of VPC.

Think of VPC as a lever ... minimum VPC should be just like a regular arc with the pigtails at the TE - more VPC increasing the effect of sheeting in and out but increases bar pressure. I like max VPC :D
Min VPC - more stable, less effect from sheeting in
Max VPC - less stable (har!), more effect from sheeting in
The lighter you are, probably the less VPC you need too ... there's a good post about it at arcusers in a thread there ...

Yeah... I got a kite. Or two...

@tridude
Thanks for the tip. I read up on that. I also found something about adding 20" pigtails to the Zero 7 bar; but Adam is selling the kite to me as if he'd flown it yesterday. I didn't bother to ask him specific details... he said it's ready to go and I trust that. Aside from tinkering with the flight settings, I don't think it will need any modification. So stoked about this!! Maybe it will give me the same big break that it gave him... That'd be nifty, eh? Passing along the torch I suppose.

Just remember seanny my chargers are tuned opposite of the scorpion so you might tinker with it and see what works best

If the Chargers are tuned perfectly, I think you had the Scorpion all wrong... maybe you could have been getting much more out of it. I dunno. I'll tell you what happens, though :)

It is completely ready to fly and all, right? Pigtails and everything?
