Video 70mph snowkite sprint.
A short vid of helmet cam footage from yesterday's speed session. Didn't beat my personal best but I bagged 70mph before having to stop to avoid a
pressure ridge.
Spent the majority of the day at 55-65mph. Felt good to fianlly get a fast day with room to run. It has not been a good season for speed.
Video here...

Transcend GPS Goggle (love these things!) data replay here...

You may want to run it in fast forward because it recorded me while I set up my kite.

Nice, I like it when you can run at speeds like that with the bar out - just think at that instant of max speed if you pulled in just a touch for a
little slingshot.
Surface looked good, one nice little crack just about max speed.
Thanks for sharing .... hope I can get my hands on some protos at NABX :-)

Thanks everyone! Hopefully Saturday will be even better.
My personal best is 73.5mph back in 2009. Prior to that it was 69.1 mph in '06. You can access the GPS data at www.ka72.com and search "Lake Umbagog". KA72 scrubs the data and removes spikes and gives you the actual speeds. GPS works well but it makes
mistakes. Scrubbing the data verifies everything and people who have doubt can examine the data or download the file and scrub it themselves if they
don't believe the speed.
You can overlay the tracks on Google earth and see that they were a lot different than these recent tracks. It was done in a much tighter area while
dodging holes in the ice. This was much easier.
Yes, I think Rip did 106kph on the buggy. I've never ridden a buggy but someday maybe I'll get to try it. No place to buggy here.
The wind was blowing 22mph to near 40mph. Mostly around mid 20's tho.:wee:
Skis were too short. I have some skis that I got specifically for this but I hadn't mounted them and I didn't want to miss the wind so I took a pair
that were too short. They were Salomon Race DH but about 10cm shorter than what I usually ride. Very chattery because of over camber.
If you pause the footage you'll see that the shovels are hardly ever touching the ice. I was using the edge underfoot and the tail mostly.
Would suck to loose the edge and crash. That surface would burn the hell out of me.:o
More edge would have equalled more speed. It would have helped not to be wearing my bulky shell but it was cold that day.
We'll see what Saturday brings!

I think Fly has a stutter.
In regards to the kite its a 12m and possibly a prototype? New or old, you can never tell with me. hehehe.
Could be an old Syn Proto for all we know.
If it is a new proto, as a Peter Lynn Team member I must state that I am unaware of any such kite testing activity or operation - nor would I be
disposed to discuss such a kite testing operation if it did in fact exist.
Let's just say it's fast and I'm in love.:wee:

also no knowledge of alien technology used .....
I hope you don't mind I copied your post and links to a Toronto area kite forum - the guys are all lamenting todays mild temperature and melt and
moaning about ice and no snow etc.
For me I say melt and rain come on, it's supposed to get real cold friday night and windy saturday - My fear is it'll be partially melted snow that
refroze lumpy and jagged. I wanna get some high speed kite time - watching the track data was great, maybe someday i'll get the goggles...

More footage....
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZMIIRZ44jPY
We got into the 50's today. The death crust seems to sunblimated and the snow layer on the lakes has settled a lot. If we don't get too much mixed
precip tomorrow we should be in good shape again on more lakes.
But Sebago has room to run.
And to ER, I haven't confirmed (or denied) a thing.:singing:

Might as well assume it's a phanny2 proto, worst case it'll spark discussion and many frame-by-frame reviews of Chris's vid! :singing: Don't mind me

I dunno kids. That kite looks aweful square and fat to be any kind of Phanny variant.
Just syain'.:D
I'm with Mark and Spider on this one. I've had enough of the quiet soft stuff and I want to get my fix. The Surface at Sebago is really good and
after 50f yesterday, a little freezing rain and 50f today the surface should be prime.
The only thing I worry about is the temps need to drop damn quick for it to be good on Saturday. Wind forecast is 22-35mph with 40mph gusts.
Perfect.
