Uh Huh. One of the best in the southeast but I am prejudiced since I live nearby. We have kite-friendly local government. I logged in 38 miles last Sunday on 5+ mile runs from just south of Driftwood Beach to the south tip and the shipwreck. Good starting point is Great Dunes park 1/4 mile north of the island entrance road, as there is a wide handicap- friendly ramp to the beach with only just a few meters of sugar sand to drag through until you get to the hard-pack. Hard-pack is football field wide (+) at low tide so it's easy to safely go around people. Few people this time of year. down south towards the south tip you will have wide open beach with people space maybe every half-mile.

You can stage directly to the south by turning right from the island entrance and go 1 1/2 mile to the southern-most water tower and look for the little driveway marked "no parking" (and park on either side on the side of the road). Just a few meters over one dune to the beach. No-one there.

Tide info on my web site, home page upper left hand corner, then use Jekyll Island/ Jekyll point as a reference for the beach.

When are you coming down? We can meet up if you like. 800-592-1195

$5 parking fee to get on to the island.

Far, I'm afraid. 5 hours, more or less. Biggest sate east of the Mississippi (who knew) and we are at opposite ends. People ask me all the time "how is Atlanta?" and I say "dunno"
