I heart snow

As summer winds down, I can't help but yearn for snow.... (yeah that's right.....yearn)

Is it bad to wax my boards before leaves fall off the trees?? Just to smell the wax?

I bought new skis for myself last Feb and new skis for my kids last month. As much as I love fall landboarding on empty beaches I can't wait to be shredding on 2-4" of New England snow on a frozen lake. Super edgeable, super fast!

Made this right at the end of the season and barely got to test it but it shows promise. Kinda pumped to see if it works. Now to cover our soccer fields? Not likely but if things get desperate.....

Great vid Flash, way to feed the stoke! I spent two afternoons, three years ago at the first Tug Hill Snowkite Festival, standing with my mouth agape, probably drooling, hard to tell, the breath freezes in my stash/beard any way. Thats what drew me into this weird addiction. I know I'll never be as good as that, but I keep trying anyway!:wee:

Bobo-
Considering how close you are to one of the greatest snowkiting locations on the East Coast, I would think you could progress quickly due to the sheer number of sessions you can get in while the rest of us live through you vicariously. All you need to do is get out there and do it.

@ ragden, ya, I know I should progress faster, but the truth is, I don't get out as much as you would think. I think you know, the closest other kiter I know is in Clayton, so we only meet up on weekends. Kind of leery of going solo at this point, though I do have a spot close to home that I brave alone, but the wind is not always best there. I've got a bunch of other spots I need to stop and talk to the farmer's about, but it always turns into a discussion of "what's in it for me?" from the farmer, and for the most part I can't blame them. So, I guess slow and steady is the key. Hey, at least I'll be there for the laugh factor...;)

Mood: Is it winter yet?

[*] posted on 16-10-2010 at 07:11 AM

Hey Gang, I 've been pretty much away from the forum all summer as i don't do much kiting other than snowkiting. I will go out and do the occasional static flight just for something different. Paddling is my main thing during the offseason. Its been a really mild fall for Northern MN but this morning when i stepped outside the temp was barely 40° and wind was blowing big time, probably low 20's. It really got me in the mood for snow and winter. Most people that live around here would think im nuts for saying that, but I can't wait to get back on Lake of the Woods and just rip for miles, or even just on a nice smooth bluegrass field got one just a couple miles from here, west to southwest winds....heaven.

I definately am in need of a kite fix!!

Oh yeah, i think this is also gonna be the season that i make my first trip to the mountains to kite, Im ready!! (or least i think i am)

I was really honestly green with envy for you guys when I heard that the fluffy stuff was falling. Down here in Lloyd all there was Cool and 50km/h gusts. Blew me off the road yesterday while riding the bike onsite at work; either it was, fall into the ditch or roll down and ride half downwind to stay riding:smilegrin:

Snow makes the unrideably rough lands of the Midwest into the largest playground the US may have to offer. Fields without trees, powerlines, buildings, fences, anything all the way to the horizon. Its like what the great flood would have been to a kiteboarder. In just a few months the ND/MN landscape will be punctuated by the distant red dot that is my Ranger 12.

Snow + Wind = Happiness.
