JIBE 2011

Looking at Dates for 2011.

Next May is weird but might work well. As you might know, there is a week where there is low tide in the afternoon and then the next has high tide late in the day. In May 2011, both weeks with low tide in the afternoon has the lowest tide very late in the afternoon.

Wednesday the 18th has low tide at 4pm and Saturday the 21st has it at 6:30pm. And these are big spring tides with big beaches. This could work well, as we noted that the winds came up later anyway and the beach clears of toddlers later in the day. We can ride till sun-down and not be a threat to sea turtles. Less chance of being baked and burned, too.

I say we bag the Friday night Dinner and maybe do a lunch one day at high tide. Easier logistics, too.

With clear beaches late in the afternoon, Shipwreck Runs will be the theme and I see a special T-shirt for this "I made it to the ship wreck..."

This also leaves another favorable weekend with good late tides early in the month for another certain event up north without double booking.

Whadda y'all think?

At one point last month I had to pick my way through a slalom course of beach blankets and innocent bystanders - pretty nerve wracking for a newbie on a PL BF with a 7m Blurr attached! So any plan that gives low tide, high wind, toddler free shipwreck runs is alright by me. Love the idea of the trophy t-shirt.

Yea, I loved the ship wreck! Riding the Blokart, I followed some hot chicks in bikini's around the corner and they were calling out that it looked fun and really cool, and I even got one "Heeeyyyyyyyy!!".

What I didn't realize was that I was running on apparent wind once I rounded the corner at high speed, and as I made my really cool- showing off -drifting turn around, came to a dead stop and then had to Flintstone style back to the corner to get the wind back! Lost all sorts of cool points for sure!

Well let's review your coolness score:

-1 for thinking you're all that
-2 for the walk of shame
+5 for doing the walk of shame in the Blokart instead of the buggy.

Your overall score is +2. I don't see a problem here. :-)

Make it so captain!

We went down to the shipwreck on sat and staid there. In the afternoon, things had cleared up and we could do the whole run.

Stayed away from people the whole time.

I love Jibe and can't wait to do it some more!

aoxomoxoa for sure~!

I can even look at the possibility of staging JIBE on the south end for Saturday. There is good parking at the Soccer complex / 4-H Club and that is right where the beach starts to bend around and turn south, then SW towards the Shipwreck and yeah, it is wide open down there. Problem is beach access. There is one very looong ramp over the dunes to get to the beach, but with less public traffic there, it might be do-able. It does involve stairs, though.

Direct foot access to the shipwreck is a non-starter. There is limited parking and the public right of way is a 1/3 mile path over marsh with rickety / rotting wood ramps. Not good with a buggy.

For weekdays, we will keep the staging area in front of Blackbeards, as it is not so crowded then and we will be there later in the day. We will also have the handicap ramp open a few hundred feet to the south then too; suitable for bigger buggies.

Blackbeards is a cool area. Not many folks hanging out there at low tide, no water or knee deep around the bar.

I can't wait to get back down there. Thats a perfect place to learn to get up on a board. I think Dana and I will be visiting again
before this year is over.

Have the restrooms been completed?

ALL for the crowdless south end. a step in the better passive safety direction.

AND the HAMPTON INN there IS the freshest spot. big shaded park right beside as well. parking and access def limiting factor.

it will def make it a more private affair, maybe clothing optional too, yeah?

Come down anytime. The new park and restrooms are not done yet but is close (It's a state project so don't let expectations get too high).

The wooden open pavilion deck with handicap ramp to the beach is done, as are the picnic shelters. Curbs are poured and drainage is in so they just have to pour the asphalt for the parking lot. Bathrooms are being finished out now, so I bet it is done in July, only a month late. It will be nice.
