6 Miles of new sand is being added to Galveston's beaches. The new sand will add 60 meters of beach !!!!!!

They say the new technology will allow the beaches to last up to a decade without erosion.:wee::wee:

And whats 6 miles vs 60 meters deal? which is it?

a strech of 6 miles will be extended 60 meters

if i remember correctly it is a 64 million dollar project designed to progress tourism and local assets as well as a larger buffer zone between water and backdoor step.

Um again if i remember correctly i think they said starting at the hotels and going west. no i didnt catch the timeline. The are woking on it right now though so im sure it should move along pretty quickly. it still hasnt sunk in how great this is . ive landboarded for about 5 miles down the beach towards galveston and the beach get so narrow!!

i cant imagine 60 meters.

I've buggied on several beaches where this has been done. Yes it will be an expanded beach but in all my experiences, the sand to totally above the tide line and thus doesn't get packed down. It will stay pretty loose even with rain hitting it. Bigfoots on a buggy make it a non-issue though. I don't see anyone landboarding on this sand though. Eventually enough of the sand will erode and possibly expand the tidal portion of the beach, which should be more firm.

at low tide we have plenty of room.... on the southern end, past galveston, near the state park, a trip all the way down and back would be 34 miles!! i put almost 50 miles on my atb in one day the last time i went out near SLP... great day, but my calves were KILLING me by the time i was done...

at east beach, when tide goes out, there is plenty of room to fly up and down the beach... jump too high (go downwind too much), and you might land in the soft stuff... but its soft, so it hurts less when you crash!

you coming to san luis pass this weekend??? napkra is hosting a buggy event on the 19th and 20th.... there are always lotsa buggies hanging around... somebody will prob let you use theirs, and the hardpack for the atb is pretty good, too

ill be there i wanna see some buggys throw down. ive never seen it in real life before.

From what has been said about the new sand it will be in town where we do not buggy and fly kites. The east end and west end of the island is the best place to buggy and land board.
