NAPKRA Has Obtained Insurance

We are glad to announce we are in the process of finalizing insurance for NAPKRA. It has taken 8+ months to find a carrier that will write for Kite Buggying. I would like to personally thank Angus Campbell of Coastal Wind Sports in Georgia, to finally leading us to a source, he again shows his commitment and passion for growing our sport/ hobby/ and many of us, our obsession. I would also like to thank Susan Orgeron in helping me with this process. If you only knew how many insurance applications were filled out just to be denied and the number of people, both buggiers and insurance agents across the region we had working on finding coverage, you would be astonished. This was our last lead of finding coverage here in the US. I had also begun having people look in Europe. We need to nurture this opportunity of being insured, as it might well be the only one we have. It is necessary in the effort to build good relationships with the public and law enforcement in showing the safety and responsibility of kite buggiers. Otherwise our sport may be banned from the few spots we presently have, and our sport will die.

This insurance is much more comprehensive than that which we had previously. This policy not only protects our clubs here in the US but also our club members in Canada and Mexico as well as any pilot from any other country who would race with us. Within the next two weeks we will be signing and paying for this insurance. We will be sending information to all pilots very soon on how this process will occur.

All active pilots in good standing will be issued a photo ID card, with pilot’s name, buggy number, years as a member, expiration date and detailed Insurance info on back. This may be very beneficial to have if confronted by law enforcement, at a NAPKRA sanctioned/organized/supervised event/practice/demo, weather it be a Park Ranger, Lifeguard, Campus Police, etc. It may also open doors to additional venues to buggy at, as Practice Sessions, if the land owner requests an Additional Insured Declaration to protect themselves.

For more detailed information on this insurance and how it can help you, log on to www.napkra.org and if you are an existing member go to the forum under Announcements. If you are not, you can register to become a Pilot.

This is exciting news, along with the finalization of our Corporation and Non-Profit Status soon to follow. We are looking forward to now being able solicit monies and sponsors to help build our organization.

Regards
Brad Rex

We should be able to give demos at kite events now with insurance. This will be good exposure to our sport.

Something to look into.

Ya that would be bad if we had to get licensed to buggy, I had a hard enough time just passing drivers ED.

Funny how networking works out; I steered Brad to the folks that insured Jibe for 2010 and I knew this agency from years of working with the National Skate Patrol where they insured our patrollers and events. My policy for JIIBE is essentially a Skate Park Policy with a few changes in terminology. The NAPKRA policy, with its breadth and scope was bigger project. thanks to Brad for working that out. The picture ID, with its insurance data is a BRILLIANT idea! More credibility for the sport.

Personal Kite Insurance

Hey Ken

The underwriter will not offer a premium for personal, non-sanctioned/-supervised/-scheduled activities, because of the lack of sport organization: operation, control, checks, rules, requirements, etc; conversely, if all such activity were controlled, checked by a Governing body and there was a way to project the amount of such activity (Their Exposure) (i.e., participants, practices, etc.), the underwriter might be able to estimate a premium. Again, this is quite common across the country for sport governing bodies.

We have looked extremely hard for 8+ months here in the US to find insurance for kite buggying. I believe the only Organizations and or Kite Buggy Events that are covered by any insurance for the 2009-2010 seasons at this time, are NAPKRA Sanctioned Events (SOBB Race/Demo/Practice Time, DBBB Race/Demo/Practice Time) and Angus’s Jekyll Island Buggy Expo

i'm slow. sorry:shocked2:
this insurance only applies to qualified persons when enrolled/participating in officially organized/sanctioned events?
if were to become a member of NAPKRA I get a buggy number and photo pilot ID and am automatically 'insured' via NAPKRA membership fees? if i am buggying in nonsanctioned environment and 'something' happens I am not covered by NAPKRA's insurance?
