Went down to Key West this past weekend and had some excellent instruction. Hooked up with Nick at the Kitehouse. Met at the launch. You head out to
the flats about 5 miles, anchor up and get the kites pumped up. Rig up and ready to go. You are in about 2 feet of water. After some kite handling and
body dragging routines, off to the board.
About half a dozen attempts, I made it up and was able to get about 20 yards or so before I realized I had to keep working the kite for power. So much
info to take in my adrenaline was in overdrive!!!
Spent Saturday afternoon for a 3 hour session and Sunday morning for another 3 hour session. Muscle memory slowly started to kick in and then the
wind dropped down quite a bit. Was difficult to stay up. I was on a 15m Crossbow.
It was a great learning weekend for me and anyone who has had any frustration trying to learn in the surf needs to get down to the flat in the Keys.
Clear water, wind direction is not an issue, Great crew to get you going. I highly recommend the Kitehouse for instruction or if you can already ride
they will take you out to the flats and you can ride all day!
I am stoked. Can work on board starts at my local beach now and continue the learning curve.
