Barry Ogletree did an inquiry about the barricades at San Luis Pass. He discovered some disturbing news for those of us who enjoy SLP.
He checked with the Texas Land Commissioner in Austin. When CenTex homes bought the last three miles of the island, they made a deal with Galveston
county to go to bat for them with public hearings etc., so they could close off the whole end of the island. That is what we are starting to see now.
They are currently closing off the beach in front of the big main offices. Next, they are going to move on around the end of the island and finally
close it all off. The Texas Land Commish knows all about it. Anyway, there is not supposed to any more vehicular traffic there anymore. The company
is supposed to supply beach access with walkways every mile. So you will have to walk on the crossover walkways from 2-300 yards back of the dunes.
The fishermen will have a small parking spot, but will have to walk also.
They are going to make themselves a nice private beach area at the citizens of Texas expense. The catch is that if you are handicapped, you can take
your golf cart to the beach. New residence of the development will find it is easy to get a handicapped sticker because the average person will not
walk that long distance from the houses to the beach. So everyone in the subdivision will get a handicapped sticker and be home free.
