Lake Mcconaughy

Some of the Colorado crowd on here mentioned that this weekend was supposed to be a good time to make a trip to nebraska. just wondering if anyone's still got anything to say about it, or whether there's some reason this weekend is the time to go.

Hey Yeti,
I got completely busy and hadn't looked at the forum for weeks and just today got on to find the mention of a possible crew heading out to Mac was this weekend...I totally spaced it and now I am in the same boat as you - curious if anyone is indeed heading out?

I am working on calling a last minute shuffle of my own plans to head out for at least the day tomorrow since some forecasts call for decent wind with the potential to just throw a tent and cooler out on the beach in case anyone else shows up and plans to ride Saturday...otherwise I may just come back to the front range Friday.

let me know if you hear anything or want to maybe meet up - I don't think i'm a creeper/weirdo if that matters :)

Most forecasts now look very weak after today for several days...not looking too promising - anyone have any other views?

None of the normal (???) Rocky Mountain Kite Association are going that I know of.

I went a few years ago. I heard that it might be better this year.

Flying in a gravel parking lot with cars driving over your lines and driving under your flying kites is not something I plan to do again.

Peter Lynn - Resurrected Vapors (thanks to Tenacious Tape): 3.2, 3.8, 4.5, 5.4m. Size 2.3m (dead) - all internal bellows shredded
Pansh - Cerberus - 3, 4, 5, 6, 7.5, 9m. (red)
Peter Lynn - Viper - 2.6m
Flexifoil - Rage - Rasta 1.8, 2.5 (dead), 3.5 (dead), 4.7 (v2). New backup of 2.5m and 3.5m.
Ozone - Method 6.5m (w/ Ozone Turbo Bar)
Libre - Bora - Yellow 3.0 & 4.5 (both on their last breath of life)
Peter Lynn - C-Quad - 6.3
HQ - NPW9: 3.4 & 5.3. NPW5: 1.0

Buggies (Kite and Land)
#1 Buggy: Libre Full-Race
#2 Buggy: Peter Lynn Suspension buggy
#3 Sailer: Homemade Land Sailer
#4 Buggy: Windspeed Pro Ivanpah Buggy named Bruce (because he weighs 130 lbs!!)

If the wind is up there will be kiters, check Papa Bobs site for the current conditions, I was told today that there is a lot of beach so that part is good as the lake is down a bit.

Why would you go to McC for any reason but getting on the water?

Tide? What's a tide? Man, it's 1000 miles to any ocean.

Jeff, I don't think I'm going today but I will probably have a more flexible schedule later this summer. Since I've never been up there before and I don't really know what I'm doing I thought it'd be a good idea to see if anyone local was heading up. Guess I'm too late to get in on the wind this time, if the forecast is no good after today like you say.

<-- not going.

Wind looks good around here for Sunday midday, though. Going out somewhere... Just not sure where yet. Jeff, I'll send you my #. I already have plans to hook up with Cerebite and erratic winds. Feel free to give me a call before sunday .

Cheers.

Well I'm thinking of going up this weekend but I thought I'd ask here to see if anyone who has been there before could share all the secrets with me before I go.

If I'm going to spend all day doing water starts on the beginner beach do I need a wetsuit? where's the best place to camp and what does it cost? etc?

If anyone wants to u2u me that'd be awesome. Thanks.

Yeti-we were in Steamboat on a ride for the weekend and didn't end up checking the board until today...which means I missed out on Proletariats note and yours...sorry again guys.

Did you head out to Mac? Let me know if you end up wanting to go sometime again - we can meet up.

Yeah I went up Saturday and just got back a couple hours ago. I'll be tied up next weekend but it sounds like the wind gets better later in the summer anyway.

Today I was only able to try a couple of crappy water starts and body drag around. There was an Australian who was able to ride a little on his 12m at like 8am when the wind was blowing but he was having a tough time going anywhere later on.

Glad I went up though. At least now I know what the place is like and I did get to fly the kite around on the beach a lot too.
