Jacksonville or Savannah?
Jacksonville is a little closer, so what is the recommendations for flying into, and getting a rental car that will fit a Libre Majestic in it?

It does look like Jacksonville is closer,... But I know once I hang a right onto I-95 from I-16 (I drive from Atlanta) it's only another hour till I
get to the exit for JI. So you won't go wrong either way.
Uhaul sounds like a good idea.
I'm going to take a nap now

Jacksonville is only an hour away. My wife flew into Jacksonville for Jibe and the ticket was only $131.52 one way from Seattle. RT would have been
$228.00.

"U Haul van $19.99 a day"
Just a little note on the "U Haul rental" ... It's usually NOT what it seems as advertized. It is kind of misleading in that you will end up spending
quite a bit more than the $19.99. Plus those U Hauls avg 5-12 mpg.
And IF YOU DO get one (after reading this) make SURE you get the insurance, AND visually inspect those things with a fine tooth comb. And don't be
afraid to use a separate piece of paper to note additional damage, and they keep a copy. And make ABSOLUTELY sure you fill the tank at the closest
filling station to where you drop it off at, and hand the receiver the receipt, so s/he can make note of it in their records. Also they usually charge
outrageous fees for filling them up additional to the fuel cost.
Seriously I speak from experience. They tried to get me for a RUSTED hitch!

this is everywhere^.
I use a camera to take pics of the vehicle upon pickup. hard to argue with a bunch of car pictures.
(If you would have had insurance, and brought the thing back with a the bumper still holding the telephone pole, they would have never looked at the
rusty hitch.)

Glad this started. Never too early !
Couple more questions.
I hope to do some tourist stuff as well as Jibe. Thinking I would like to see Savannah and Atlanta. About how long a drive will it be from each of
those places to JIBE ? Would one have better deal on car rental than the other ?
I will want to stay in a motel or something other than camping at the event. What are my best options for reasonable priced accommodation ?
My plan is to attend but things will depend on changes happening at work still.

I am planning to attend JIBE again, but this time I am hoping to be using a teardrop camper I am building.
With respect to travel from Atlanta, to Savannah, it is approximately 250 miles (402 KM - 3 hr 45 minutes). Always depending on WHERE you are
traveling from, and to.
And from Savannah to Jekyll Island it's approx 95 miles (152 KM - 1 1/2 hour). The easiest rout to Jekyll Island will take you through Savannah. IMHO.
I can not comment on car rentals.
cheers

^^^^ yeah, that ^^^^
As far as car rentals go, they are all similar in my experience. Accomodations in Brunswick just off exit 29 at the Microtel are usually about the
best bet. Clean quiet rooms for usually 40-50 per night. I've stayed there a few times This is all if you are not renting a house on Jekyll. I threw in with drew last year and it ended up being a lot less than a hotel. Also
nice that you are right on the island and you can save some scratch on food.

BR, I live just outside Atlanta (Marietta is north west of the city) and I can be at Jekyll Island in right around 5 1/2 hours.
Atlanta has some touristy stuff,... I particularly like the aquarium, ...but Savannah is probably a little more vacation-ish IMHO.
Let me know if you head down and want to meet up.
You'll love JIBE.

Agreed! I was shocked to how reasonable the houses were to rent for the week. For a family of 4, it was a no brainer. Our biggest expense will be the
rental SUV from Virginia . Oh well. Least there is a year to save

Thanks. That confirms most of what I was thinking.

BB, you do know the sand is like cement, right? You will love the surface, you can rollerskate the beach if you want without a kite. I even thought of
bringing my blades next time just to make it to the ship wreck and back with out having to walk from the water tower. Hope for good winds and use your
coat as a sail.:o
