Flysurfer speed sizes.

A quick question, just out of interest.

I'm browsing the sizes of the speeds, why is it that they dont do a particularly high wind kite? The smallest, the 12m, is obviously comparable to larger models in other makes / models. And wind wise, the max windspeed for the 12m (on land) is 25 mph.

I know they have smaller sizes with the Speed 4, but even they don't go past 29 mph wind speed.

Just wondering when they don't do a speed for 30+ mph winds.. ?

Speed 2's were available all the way down to 6m.

Usually, when I've wondered why I don't see a version of the kite in a particular size, it's that the last revision of that kite in that size didn't sell too many...

Tide? What's a tide? Man, it's 1000 miles to any ocean.

The speed is a pretty high aspect depower(close to 6), I am assuming it gets a little unstable and too fast on the smaller sizes.
If you look at the newer Speed4 (8 and 10) the aspect ratio is under 5, making very similar to the 4.5 on the psycho, thus I assume they decided the small/high wind kites are already covered by the unity/psycho, and now the speed4.

Another possibility would be cost, maybe they decided that not many people would be interested in spending almost $2000 for 6-10 meter kites.

I assume they want you to use their more "stable" kites for those crazy days such as a 6m psycho/unity/viron.

*The wind ranges on the site are very dependent on rider weight/conditions and experience level. I am sure some riders will claim that 29mph is too much for an 8m S4, and some riders will claim that they can ride it past 40mph

What Martini said. Unity goes to 6m I'm pretty sure. Viron is 6m, 4m, and 2.5m. I've got 6m and 2.5m Virons inbound for the kids! And I hope they let dad fly them on high wind days. :)

with as much depower and stability as the S4 has.... i would have no issue with using the 8m from 30-40 and i weigh 165lbs

until you try one you might have to take my word. the S4 is i think the best high wind kite they made so far. ive been using the psycho3 6m and it works good, but the S4 is so much easier to handle in stability and depower.

I have the Speed2 6m and 10m. I've only flown the 10m since we rarely have high wind days here.

As far as I can tell the 10m is pretty stable and not lifty at all - although I don't have too much experience on it yet and I've never tried it in over 20mph wind. The first time I used it was at the JIBE last month while most were flying 15-18m twin skins that day, my 10m Speed2 were doing just fine and very fast in upwind.

If you are insteresed, I can let go my 6m. I got it for a pretty good price and I will ask for the same.
