New Speed System For Hq Montanas

Hi,

Will any Ozone speed system fit an HQ Montana series 5 or 6????

Ozone parts are easier to buy than HQ.

I'm very close to just buying a pulley - less inflatable instead of putting up with constantly having to change the rope.

Say this speed system costs £40, that's about £120 I'm having to spend a year just to keep the three kites flying.

Yeah, an inflatable may blow out but in the long run it's surely cheaper to run than these foils which seem to require constant maintainance(several rings and pulleys).

What is wearing out, the pulley or the line or both?

If the line, why not just replace it yourself with some 2-4mm amsteel. If the pulley just replace them with ronstan kite blocks. And if you are flying on the beach make sure there is no sand stuck in your pulleys or embedded in your lines. A do it yourself repair of 4 pulleys and speed / ring lines can be done for under $30 and within an hour or 2 depending upon how complex the bridle is to undo and retie. Splicing amsteel is super easy and fast.

My speed systems have lasted upwards of 4 years on my ozones, gins and flysurfers with moderate use and maintenance. Sure I could have replaced the mixer lines at years 2 or 3 but as long as the kite is performing and nothing looks like its going to break, I hold out. I replaced 2 pulleys because they were bound up with sand and ring lines and speed lines should be considered disposable parts in need of replacement but can easily be made on your own.

I've never owned an HQ but line is line and pulleys are pulleys so you should expect the same amount of life unless you are in harsh conditions.

As far as putting an ozone mixer on your HQ kite... it may or may not work right out of the box. They are universal in principle but not in length so you likely will have some tweaking to do.
