Is a prism tensor 3.1 big enough for me??

Was wanting to get a power kite that I could just wear regular rollar blades on a track and have the tensor pull me. I weigh 130 lbs. Thanks

Hmmm, let's talk about what you want to really get into, rather than just answering your snap question. I think it might benefit you more than just us saying yea or nay on the kite. So you want to power kite, right? You have maybe seen it on water, or on deserts, or beaches, and you don't have any of that, so you are thinking track/pavement?

Ok. It's totally plausible to have some rollerblades and a wing in a small area. ;)

So, to answer the question, yeah, it's enough kite to pull you around. But, we're not kidding when we say don't hurry to lace em up and get rolling. We don't know if you have kite experience at all, so we will treat you like you don't, sorry if this is all stuff you have heard before! Even a 'small' powerkite can hurt you. Do a fair bit of flying on a bit of grass to get the feel of it. Try to learn about the 'wind window' and where the power is generated, plenty of tutorials online. You might feel silly wearing a helmet in a grass field to fly a kite, but DO IT! Wear a helmet at all times when flying a power-kite!

If you're comfortable flying, sure, add plenty of pads, keep wearing the helmet, and put on some skates, and you'll be zooming around soon enough.

When you say track, do you mean like HS Field oval, or other? If you're planning on trying to ride the oval of pavement, this can be a very difficult plan based on wind direction! Best of luck and I'm serious about the helmet at all times!

Tide? What's a tide? Man, it's 1000 miles to any ocean.

I was really just wondering weight wise. If the 3.1 was enough to pull me on rollerblades or if the 4m tensor would pull me better. I actually do not have a power kite yet. I am getting a snapshot 1.9 or a snapshot 2.5 next week. I read a person with my weight of 130 lbs that the 2.5 might be to much for me so I am leaning toward the snapshot 1.9. I was not planning on rollerblading with a kite anytime soon. Was just reading and looking alot and just got excited about it. Thanks for the above comments.

Any kite will get you moving with enough wind behind it blades or not..it took me many months flying static to get into motion and I was cramming in lots and lots of hours in said months.. You have a bunch of flying in front of you before you want to take that on..we all wanted to get moving as fast as possible but their are plenty of steps on the way..don't rush it... enjoy everyone of those steps and be smart and safe..this all said I think I would go 2.5 it will serve you more in the future..do plenty of reading/video..lots of static flying figure it all out and get comfortable with your kite than go after movement....have fun..ask questions..wear a helmet

The Snapshot 2.5 has plenty of pull to get you moving on a low resistance surface (tarmac, concrete etc.)... the trouble is it's a 2-line kite, so it's a pain to recover if you crash it because you can't reverse launch it. This isn't so bad if you're flying static in a field or on a beach... you can just run over to it, flip it over dump a couple of weights or some sand on it and run back to the handles. However, if you're on blades/buggy/skis/whatever, it's a bit more of a pain if you have to go and flip your kite. Sometimes you'll get lucky and be able to relaunch without flipping it, but you'd really be better off with a 3 or 4 line kite so you can relaunch easily.

The newer Snapshot 2.5 I believe can be turned into a 4 line kite by buying an extra set of flying lines and handles (I have the older model which doesn't have this feature), but it's going to end up costing you a bunch extra. Don't get me wrong, the Snapshot is a fun kite... I've been flying mine for 4yrs or so, but I'd be hesitant to use it on blades etc. just for the PITA factor. I did have some decent success flying a 3 line 2.5m trainer on an absolutely nuking day on skis though... managed to get moving quite fast too! I think it was a Best 2.5m trainer, and the 3rd line made it easy to reverse launch when I crashed it.

If it helps any, I'm 120lbs and the Snapshot 2.5 is fine unless it's crazy windy. I flew mine in 30mph+ gusts last weekend and that was a bit too much for me. At anything under 20mph, it has enough oomph to pull me across the grass and give me a really good workout without being overpowered. At 10mph, you can loop it all day like a stunt kite... fun, fun! :tumble:

I tell everyone that asks me about my kites to never even think about flying in 30mph winds. I weigh 135lb pure muscle and the 1.9 Snapshot is more than enough. I wouldnt use a Snapshot on blades though anything you wanna get pulled around I would request purchasing a 3 or 4 line kite.

Relaunching 2 line kites really isnt that hard once you figure out how to snap the vents back straight up.

I just prefer the 1.9 Snapshot over the 2.5 Snapshot because sometimes I dont want a crap load of pull in bigger winds. Its a nice inbetween middle ground 2 line kite, not to big but not to small.

But if your looking for your first foil definetly go with a Snapshot of some sort it will be a good investment IMO.

The Tensor 3.1M will be big enough to pull you around that I can tell you for a fact im 135lbs.

I started out taking lessons for water but struggled. I had good kite skills but pathetic board skills.

Because I had learned the kite ( much more than 100 hours + 3 lessons by then ) and was rollerblading daily I combined my 3m trainer and every pad I had . It was a HOOT and my passion for land kiting was born.

You don't need much kite because you have such little rolling resistance. 3m was a nice size. Don't even think about it without a helmet. I only fell twice . both times going very slow and my 2 feet went forward head went straight back into the tarmac !

LEARN how to fly the kite before you combine the 2 !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It's a great way to get started !

The trouble with tarmac is finding it in CLEAN WIND. Is this a good wind location ? NO wind disruption upwind for a Looooong way ? No objects to get tossed into downwind ?
