What to do with nasty old kites ?

Hey,
I've been wondering about this for a while.
My first ever powerkite, a 3m radsail has been sitting in the garage unused for a long time. I don't really know what to do with it..

It wasnt a great kite when i bought it, and that was 5-6 years ago now. Since then its been ''well used'' to say the least. Ive crashed it a few times when I was learning, then ive leant it out to a handful of people who were interested in kiting, and from that its been crashed more, and dunked in the sea once or twice.

It still flies, but not amazingly well. Ive thought of a number of things, including:
Giving it away (because of its condition, i wouldn't recommend learning on it)
Selling it (don't think it has any real monetary value)
Binning it (seems sad, and a bit of a waste)

I think i may end up just chucking it, but thought i would ask, see if anyone has any bright ideas.

Thanks,
Tim

If you only fly power foils, then giving it away/keeping on hand for other to use as a trainer or binning are probably your most likely options.

If you have sewing skills and fly other types of kites including single lines, it's possible to use even marginal canopies and recycle them into SLKs (single line kites).

One of our members who does this fairly often is jokiter.

You can see some of his handiwork here (scroll about half down the thread and you should see 3 attached images in 3 different posts). He preferred working with LEIs because most of the canopy was single skin and easier to harvest the material from.

There was someone else (I don't believe it was a forum member) that made beanbag furniture out of retired (large) LEI kites.

ATB,
Sam

I'm not clear about why it wouldn't do to learn on?

Seems that giving it away to the right young kid would be better than binning it? A kid that is old enough to grasp how to rework the bridle etc..
