Hello all,

New to the forum and power kiting in general. I'm in coastal southern Maine (Kennebunk) looking to see if there are others around this area?

I'm looking to static fly and get in to buggying as I get better / more advanced, but would like to find someone local who can provide some level of guidance.

My kite is a little Ozone Imp 1.5 Quattro, which i've only flown in light winds so far, but I've figured out the take off and progressed from crashing to actually controlled landings ;-).

If there is anyone local who'd be willing to help a newbie give me a shout!

It's all about time with the kite in the air. More is better, but any at all is good.
Your next step will be a brain bucket and a bigger kite. Then another kite. Then a buggy. Then...

You really don't need a Howard to kite. But I think a bucket is first on the list. Although a Howard can come in handy when launching a big kite!!
That being said... Mainekiter is up there some where. I know he and Howard will be in Wildwood in a couple weeks for the WBB. If your up to it that would be a great place to get to know some great folks from here on the forum. And not just locals. Kite flyers from all over converge on the beach in Wildwood NJ for a weekend of kiting EATING kiting LAUGHING kiting EATING kiting and just general foolishness with a major in learning and safety 101.

Welcome to the fun(ny) farm. Definitely connect with guys here. The learning curve will be very steep that way.

Mainekiter is next door in Wells and frequents Wells and Oqunquit, I am sure that he will be willing to help.

There is an active kiting community in South Portland and occasionally at Pine point where a few of the group dabble in power kiting. They have a fly scheduled for Buglight park this Sunday.

There is an active power kiting community in Nahant MA where I usually kite. If you want to do the 1 1/2 hour drive, we would be happy to help. Send me a U2U and we can set something up.

Welcome to the fun! The group in Nahant is worth the hour and a half drive even if you don't put a kite in the air! Tons of knowledge in that group. (nothing bad going to the group in Maine). You will soon realize that you will never look at a tree moving in the wind the same again!

If you can catch a ride to WBB or come on your own, like the others said, it is worth a buggy weights in gold with all the equipment, kiters, and fun to be had! Good luck getting with a group and learning the ropes of the great sport!

Just got a quick flight on the way home from work, no wind as such, so it was a challenge jut to keep the kite in the air, but at least it's time outdoors

I certainly have no issue with brain buckets, as I do plenty of other activities where I wear them. I was saved from what would have probably been a pretty serious injury only 2 weekends ago, so I truly do value my head!

Hopefully I can get to Bug light event this weekend, I'm supposed to be painting a room, but with good weather I could easily skip that for some flying.

I will also try to get down to Nahant, as it really isn't too far away

Remember Never put off work you have to get done, it is important to stay on task and be responsible.
OK so that was my Dad speaking. Here's me. If the wind is blowing and it is not pouring rain out. Go to Bug Light and meet other kiters. The wind may not be back for a week. But the room will be there for a while. Of course the wind may blow for several days in a row. But the room will still be there. So why put off till tomorrow what you can do the next day? Or the day after that even?:dunno:

Welcome! I was where you are not that long ago and never saw anyone kiting here in Maine. I live right down in York and would be glad to help out in any way I can. I'm out some place just about anytime the wind is blowing. York, ,Ogunquit, Wells on east winds, pine point on south and nahant on a west at least for real good riding. Did 33.5 miles at pine point last Saturday.

WARNING....WARNING....WARNING this is highly addictive as evidenced by the amount of stuff in my van. In the winter we just get to add in the frozen surfaces

I had a great time, despite it being really light intermittent wind.

Half of the reason to go to Nahant is to fly kites and buggy. he other half is for the friends. If you know them your a lucky person. If you plan to take a chance and meet them then you will become a lucky person. (Just don't look at Brian F's feet :frog
