Mood: I miss kiting

I'm in LOVE...

with my Flysurfer Speed3 DLX.

Took it out yesterday in 4-12 mph winds and WOW - what a kite. Really smooth power, very predictable and quite manageable.

Switching over from the Frenzy experience, where I was very used to really working the kite (especially in light winds) this was quite the different experience. Just put it up and have it pull you with minimal effort.

I think it truely is the gentle giant and I can see why so many have praised its name. I am still grinning from ear to ear. Heck, even when I went a couple feet off the ground unintentionally and got dragged on my back across the field I was smiling and laughing out loud the whole way!

Can't wait to get more comfortable on it and really learn to use it as my skillz progress.
(and yes, you were all right that I'll want a 15m at some point as well)
:)

Going from a Frenzy to the Speed 3 is like going from a twinkie to turtle cheese cake.

Damn, now I want cheese cake.

Where have you been flying lately? Any good spots?

I move back home the first of June, we should keep our eye on the weather and hit up some cool spots. I've got one in mind, in Matunuck.

Hey Paul!
Flew in Scarborough this past weekend but anxious to check out that Matunuck spot as Scarborough is already getting busy with soccer teams and dog walkings (and droppings)

Tridude - as for it being a jumping machine... I am soooo not there yet, so staying in low winds (under 12mph) till these 135lbs gets the hang of it all.

Feyd - thanks a lot. Now I want a twinkie AND cheese cake. :shocked2:

Chud
While not as fortunate as you to own a speed.....i want one. I had a chance to fly frathouses the other weekend( 12m) and it picked me up about 5 ft just by pulling the bar in while it was at zenith and im 235 lbs. Have fun - look forward to see you launching an air at wildwood on the mtn board. Congrats on your new "baby" Remember the only way to learn is by trying.

15- 17s, was not expecting it, i had been flying my 12m arc all day (one decent jump) so when i put the speed up in the air just pulled in to check it out and up i went. Once i realized/discovered how easy it was, i did another 3 or 4 jumps that i redirected, no more height but a wonderful soft float- definetly an amazing kite. Was very impressive to watch frathouse use it in a buggy, when i get so lucky it will be just for the board and water i think.

No doubt, the Speeds can huck in not a lot of wind. As I see it it's in the timing. Molly's Psycho will send you to the moon or do just little floaty jumps depending on how you time it and how far you throw it over your shoulder.

Even in 12mph I bet that kite can send it.

And I have to admit, tho I really dig cheese cake I wouldn't turn down a Twinkie. A Frenzy, yes but a Twinkie, not a chance.

"Even in 12mph I bet that kite can send it"
Should be able to....I've gotten my psycho4 12 to get air at 12mph, and I am no jumping master.

once you've gotten comfy with the speed kite control, don't be too afraid to send it to noon in the light winds. Maybe don't send it to the complete other side of the window after stoking the apparent wind like crazy, but really, in light winds, even though the speed series is known to jump high and long, doubt you'll get much height the first few attempts in light wind. The first attempt with my psycho I thought I was going to hit the moon from the reports I had heard....nothing. No air whatsoever. Granted, I was being quite conservative but it was reassuring in a sense to know I wasn't going to get hauled too high without the right input and winds. :)
