GPS Goggles!!! With heads up display!!!

I am not sure if this product has been discussed here, but I just stumbled across these goggles that have a little heads up display in the corner of the lens!!! Gives speed, direction, little map if you so choose tells you things like vertical feet traveled and when done at the end of the day, plug it in to your computer and upload all of this info!!! keep personal records to share with your friends or bragging rights for the blog. And keep track of epic locations!!!:o and very helmet friendly!!! They run about $500 but soo worth it!!!

So as a consumer does it stand up to a $500 pricetag? What are it's downfalls? And does it work in really remote locations? Are the controls "glove friendly?" as they say the are... How well does the software work? Any hic-ups there? Putting money into my hobbies is almost a hobby of it's own but it makes me mad when the product sucks you know!!!

Well all I can say is that for my purposes they rock.

They are glove friendly. My gloves are pretty bulky and I don't have any issues with accuating the funtions.

I love having the GPS data available to me at all times. It saves me from stopping to check my speeds and missing important gusts.

Battery time seems to last a lot longer than they specify which is a nice suprise.

The photo sensitive lens is the best I've ever used or seen. They transition quickly and they work in the brightest and pretty damn dark conditions. Example: I kited 101 miles today. I started at 11:45am and got back to my anchor by 6:00pm. I was able to see the whole time. I did have to dim the LCD to reduce the glare but the lens is unbelievable.

As to the software goes any issues I've had could probably been avoided if I actually read some instructions.

For me I'm a little put off by the whole "ski area" focus of the software. If I ride a certain lake the software defaults to the closest ski area. And they don't offer snow kiting as an optional activity for uploading your data. I'm sure kiting wasn't even remotely on thier radar when the code was written. Maybe someday there will be a patch.

You lose a little periferal (sp?) with the GPS and battery but not so much that I've found it an issue.

Over all I think they are worth the price of admission. I ride all day, come home, plug in and upload to Google Earth to review where I was and what I did.

Works slick.

it comes in two versions so those that dont care about the transition lens can save a bit.

i enjoyed mine when i was snow kiting, and looking forward to putting it to the test in the buggy. Ruudje over in Holland use their for buggying / ice buggying too.

I have spoken to Heather at Recon, and they will be adding more categories to the HQ Online. other features asked in the new patch is a Countdown Timer for racing. the possibilities are endless they say for software.

also this summer they will come out with a Mountain Bike version as well.
