Schaumburg ATB - Banned Forest preserve Police

IT looks like the forest preserve Police in Schaumburg , are telling the people no kitelandboarding in the park.

There are 2 new Police guys in the forest preserve in Schaumburg. They showed us a book that says NO Parasute and No paraGiders but they think that our ozones 8 mtrs are parachutes and they belive is dangerous for the people but there is not body in the park when Officer arrived and no kites in the sky because we just arrived.
We explained to Officer Perez the forest preserve police in Schaumburg that he doesnt make sense his intertpretation of the book and the law , but he doesnt care and told us No kites
Officer Perez the Forest preserve police guy has his own interpretation of the rules and regulation and he believes that its very dangerous for the invisible people .
He doesnt like landboard either.

Thank god that this Police are not in the Supreme court doing interpretation of the USA constitution:mad:

I think I would have to get a ticket on that one then show up in court.

Or maybe go talk to the superiors, judge or somebody who has some common sense.

Not good in my opinion to challenge a cop and tell him he makes no sense. You need to show respect for his concerns because you are going to have cop to the fact that these are in fact dangerous (if you clothesline someone with tight lines they are going to get hurt).

At this point you best bet is likely to go to the parks office and not challenge them but ask for their assistance in interpreting the rules. In the first 30 seconds of your "elevator speech", hit upon three important topics.

The park is a shared-use environment.
You are concerned about public safety.
You care about the ecological sensitivity of the park.

Then explain (not lecture) that these cannot be used as parachutes nor gliders- they just look that way and that causes common confusion. they are just a form of sail for an un-motorized vehicle. Explain that safety systems are in place to help preserve your safety and the safety of the public.

Explain that many parks departments and municipalities classify these as un-motorized vehicles like bicycles and skate boards, and with that interpretation they meet the needs of a shared use environment and have co-mingled successfully.

Now if you win there, you may have a problem with the original officers, since you have challenged them and now have gone over their heads. I would come back and, assuming your skills are up to it, offer a demonstration and show how the safety systems work to dump the kite harmlessly. That way you validate their concerns but offer a work-around that meets existing rules.

Worth a shot. This approach has worked for me with parks, police and other local authorities in a few venues.

the above approach is your best bet--confrontation certainly wont work, though it might make you feel better......

Yes, I think you're right. I talked to the superindentant for the park and he said to write him an explanation and he was going to talk to the police in person. He said everyone has a right to enjoy the park. That's why they allow the snow mobiling in winter, and the remote model planes, and speed bikes. This is a new sport that is attracking alot of people and the police don't understand what it is. They don't know the difference between a parachute and a power kite. They think you fly away with them and land at the Sears Tower. Logically, we are practicing common sense and security measures. Another concern is that there were some unexperienced people using huge kites that they couldn't control and this was drawing attention with the police.
