Epic!

HOOJ thanks to Angus for making it happen. I can only imagine how much planning went into the event. Angus seemed to be always running around making sure everyone was having a great time, helping out with launching, landing, relaunching, etc. He went above and beyond in so many ways, even though he had a brand new shiny beast of a bug that was begging for him to get some seat time. Hats off to you Angus for a job well done!

A lot of firsts happened at JIBE...

Tridude headed up and down the beach in his new bug and his SA 19 had him grinning from ear to ear and when others were just staring @ the water, the SA got him out there. Awesome stuff!

Hardrock had some great buggy runs, and his wife got some awesome kite time in! Ill bet we will see her in a bug soon!

Phree probably got his pilots license as I think I saw him in the air more than on the ground with his charger...omg sweeeeet kite!

Craig from HQ was there taking a ton a great pics and video, not to mention passing around the quiver of HQ kites he brought along. I got some time with the Montana V 9.5...awesome kite! Gentle as anything but when you want power, its got that in spades! Nice gradual build up of power but when its lit, its LIT!!! Great kite, Highly recommended!

I got some seat time in the blokart and zooter (a lot of 2 wheel action! Weeee!) Thanks again Pokite! Which reminds me, Pokite and I are sissies...or so we were told

Set a PB of 35.2! Felt like I was flying! Would have gone faster I think but the buggy kept sliding sideways and bleeding speed off. Learned down turns, down loops, power slides, learned how to 180 to avoid an OBE, and learned how to dodge curious toddlers that want to run straight at you! Proud to say not 1 OBE for me. Woot! Also got to fly a couple Arcs...the Venom 19 (thanks Hardrock!!!!) wow, nice kite! Also, the Phantom 15 wow...just wow... (Thanks Pokite!) And let's not forget the spanking I received from the PKD combat 3.5 oh, its only blowing 12-14 and its only a 3.5... Holy hell this thing means business! I almost took out the tent at buggy camp. Humbling really.

Awesome event from start to finish! I learned more there than I could have learned in a year on my own in Naples. Again, HOOJ thanks to Angus for making it happen, and HOOJ thanks to everyone there for making it so much fun!

Hey mougl, made it home today and yes it was epic. Angus worked his butt off for this and done a fine job indeed.

Great group of people too.

I also picked up a ton of info. Amazing how much more you can take in around the pro's.

Had as much enjoyment watching as flying sometimes.

I don't think an hour went by that I didn't think about you guys out there enjoying the best conditions ever at a JIBE it seems. Angus really does handle the organizing thing well. I hope he got a chance to rip down to the shipwreck. I'm glad it was such a success and had such awesome conditions. I'm already campaigning and scheming to get there next year so I hope you guys didn't use up all the wind!

Mougl, congrats on the pb. My pb before nabx was 35.4 set at Jibe last year coming back from the shipwreck. That's covering some ground and feels like 60 doesn't it? What kite did you do it with? My 35.4 was with a Montana IV 9.5. (Smoked it at the sod farm with the M5 today!) Did 2 pegstands for hitting the gas too hard coming out of a turn!

hoping for nabx 2011! I have nowhere to ride in naples to raise the pb BUT I'm going to work on some freestyle I have a LOT of saving to do for mods on the xr, new kites, race bug, trips to nabx 2011 and JIBE 2011...omg I need a raise!

Think ill concentrate on a couple of new kites and the events first lol

They worked great! Not a single Roo was taken out on Jekyll Island all week! I will post pics later of my brand new shiny red Ivanpah buggy with the Roo Sacarers on the front fork.

Thanks to everybody for helping to make JIBE 2010 a great event. Big Shout out to Mougl for helping with administration and to all those who helped every day loading the Kitemobile while I raced the tide at night.

Locals Peter Boyton and Robb Autrey did a great job with SLK show-kites that attracted people from miles around. Blackbeards Restaurant noticed the up-tick in business and since it is state-owned, kite peeps continue to be good friends of the state of Georgia.

Yeah Bobby I got a few runs to the shipwreck in the new Ivanpah buggy. I described the Ivanpah as a Lazy-boy on railroad tracks. It expands the wind range of my kites since I can hold down so much more.

Nothing like seeing a pack of kites coming at you on the beach, everybody with a big grin on!

I wish I could say that I arranged the near perfect on-shore winds everyday, or that C-130 low level fly-by that kicked off the event noon on Wednesday. Just good fortune.

Many thanks to Craig for the time on the Montana 9.5. That kite was a lot of fun. I'm still not sure why I gave it back to you. Anytime you want to do another photo shoot I'm there. Sorry about the mud. ;-)

I bought a couple Arcs this year but I've barely had time to fly them. Getting to watch Steve, Chad, Dean, and Chris handle theirs was HOOJ. I learned so much from that. Before this I liked my Arcs but thought they were squirrelly. Now I think they're awesome.

To those that didn't make it to JIBE this year, you should really make time next year, come on the weekdays, join the south-bound pack, and keep going until you see this:



It's totally worth it.

Great photo Phillip. For those wondering, that is a photo of the "shipwreck". There is an entire shrimp boat under that. It is about 3.25 miles south of Kite beach and if anybody in a buggy sees it, it means they got their ticket punched for JIBE and do not have to wear a green skirt (ours are green for the turtles). It is on the very south end of the island and to get to it means you have to manage several points of sail as the beach curves around.

We have to think of some rally event for the shipwreck; it has become a rite of passage. Maybe a special T-shirt for those that can document with a photo...

any ideas?

Maybe a run to the shipwreck, where there is a cooler of ice cold beer waiting. Each person gets a beer and a voucher from the person manning the post. Maybe a "I survived the Jekyll Shipwreck Run" T-shirt given to those with vouchers on return to buggy camp? I'll man the post...the beer "should" be safe with me

T-Shirt! T-Shirt! T-Shirt! Maybe next year's JIBE shirt should have the shipwreck as part of the logo. I thought it was kind of cool, so I took a bunch of photos of it while I was eating lunch down there. As to the goal, you could use the wreck and require a photo or place a set of tags there that people have to retrieve. OF course you could take it further and make a full blown scavenger hunt/road rally/alley cat. Place tags at a variety of locations on the beach. They could be marked with GPS coordinates, trail markers, clues, signage, or a mix of all of these. Make some accessible only by foot so people have to land their kites to go get them. Tie one set to a buoy that only gets exposed at the lowest low tide. To get the prize you must collect one of each tag and return it to the registration booth.
