Oregon, PDX Area Kiting
Hey all, I recently bought a HQ Crossfire 2.4 after enjoying a snapshot 1.9 for a while. I really enjoy the quadline. I have flown a couple times in
pretty decent winds (was forecasted 15-20mph). I have flown at Blue Lake Park in Portland and Thousand Trails, which is just outside of Troutdale on
the way to Hood River.
I was wondering if there were any other kiters around who knew of nice spots in the area. I don't really see anything wrong with Blue Lake or Thousand
Trails but I'm always wanting to try new places. I'd like to try beach flying near Rooster Rock with the 2.4 because I enjoyed it with the 1.9, but It
seems a bit on the small side where I tried. I went directly down from the parking lot. I am guessing that there are some better spots on the beach
there, but I haven't had a chance to really check it out yet.
All the extra babbling aside, I was wondering if anyone knew of any other spots besides Blue Lake Park in Portland, and Thousand Trails in Troutdale.
I hope to hear back soon!

I know that a group of two-line fliers use to fly over by P.I.R. Don't know if that is still an option or not. Check it out.

Looks like that could still be something but I don't see any recent posts about people flying there. From looking at Google maps satellite images it
seems to be a bit smaller than Blue Lake or Thousand Trails, but could be worth the 20 minute drive to go check it out. Thanks for the heads up on
that. I heard about that spot a little while back but forgot about it. If anyone else knows about some spots I'm all ears!
Thanks again,
Zach

I haven't found a really good area yet, thoughthere are a bunch of smaller ones. I bet delta park would be great... The pit area is effectivly a dog
park and nobody cleans up.
Are you looking for east or west side? I have a google map overlay with all the reasonable parks and open areas.

I live in Gresham so preferably east side, but if it's a great spot, why not make the trip

Evergreen airfield in Vancouver. Best used on weekends (nearby businesses get fussy even though there is ample parking,) and about 10 minutes from
PDX. Best access is off of Hearthwood (? about 146th & Mill plain.)
Aim low. Reach your goals, and avoid disappointment.

I now of a few area there where I have flown before. Delta park is where some of the stunt kite shops fly. There are some spots on Marine drive near
the airport that have access to the river that have some flying space before drop to the river. Be carful of wind direction if your not planing on
swiming. I have Seen kitebaords launch on the water from there. My brother flys from schools when they are not in sesion. I flown a 3m at red sunset
park of of Hogan between troutble and Gresham north of Stark. This place is blocked by trees more the I like.

Cool, thanks all for the suggestions. I'm probably gonna drive around today (no class!) looking at these spots. Hopefully the wind will pick back up
some for the weekend!

I'm about to make a loop from my house to delta park and then up to evergreen airfield. Might skip delta park for a different day, but haven't decided
yet. Just gonna see where the road takes me. From what I could see on google maps, evergreen airfield looked to be fenced off except for one small
entry way. Hopefully I can get in and check it all out *crosses fingers*

Evergreen airfield looks great! The pictures that show buildings on google are old. The buildings have been taken down and now it is open. I parked
just off Mill Plane in what I assume was old airport parking. There was an unlocked gate and from there I got to walk all over and check out the open
space. Very good spot!

Go around back near the big brick buildings. No fences/gates. Parking in the spots on mill plain can get you a ticket. Also, the west end is still
an active runway running north/south. Not very busy, but something to be aware of.
Aim low. Reach your goals, and avoid disappointment.

Very good to know. Getting a ticket will only set me back from getting a bigger kite!
